Three Things

Month Year — Issue No. 00

Last month, we at Three Things set out to raise $1,000 for organizations supporting the Black Lives Matter Movement by matching donations made by readers like you. I’m happy to announce that we raised over $1,200 together! It’s not much in the grand scheme of things but I think every bit counts. There's a lot going on in the world and I feel lucky to have this newsletter and all of you, thanks for reading ❤️

Things I Ate

Yep, absolutely still baking bread but I think I'm really getting the hang of it. The dough has been more consistent during shaping. The rise in the oven has been more full. The baking has been more predictable which we love.

Things I Ate

Kuykendall Indian

We’ve been slowly opening up our circle with other people who have been practicing safe distancing, like our good friends Mike and Chris. Michael made us an excellent meal consisting of Indian favorites, each executed perfectly. He was supposed to send me a list of the menu that night but it looks like he forgot, maybe if he sends me the menu I can add it in the next Three Things...

Things I Ate

A Little Fancy

I'm almost finished cooking through Nothing Fancy! At the time of this writing, I am at 92% (109 of 118). By the next Three Things, I'll have completed this journey. I'll have more to write about it upon completion. Until then enjoy these photos:

Coconut-Braised Chicken with Chickpeas and Lime

Soy-Braised Brisket with Caramelized Honey and Garlic

Things I Saw

The People

Sophia, Matt, Maia, Emily, and I had the opportunity to participate in a few protests across San Francisco. It was really beautiful and powerful to see many people using their voices as one. Everyone was wearing a mask and very being very respectful in trying to keep a safe distance. People were also handing out masks, bottles of water, and snacks for free. One protest led us through the Mission district and another went across the Golden Gate Bridge. Going to continue to find ways to support the movement through protesting, donating, and self-education. BLACK LIVES MATTER

Things I Saw

Ken's Korner

An early memory from my childhood is my Mom, Brother, and I (Dad was probably working or something) sitting in the living room watching TV and eating candy. You could always find sweet and sour treats in our house. Fast forward 30 years and my Mom and Brother have started a li-hing mui candy company in Kailua. They came up with the idea and within a few days the Instagram was set up and they were taking orders. This month I helped them get a website to start taking orders and we turned it live on July 1st. It's been a really fun project to collaborate on.

Shameless plug:
Kens Korner ships! Put in your order today:

Things I Saw

Presidio Heights

Like many of you, I’ve been trying to get into a routine during these strange times. I’ve started taking walks in the morning around my neighborhood, turning down unfamiliar streets and discovering new nooks and crannies. I’ve also used this time to listen through an audiobook, Sapiens, which is almost 15 dang hours. These lil morning walks have been a great way to start the day.

Places I Went

Dipsea Trail

Sophia wanted to get out of the city for a hike and decided on Stinson Beach, just north of San Francisco. We intended to do a 6 mile hike and ended up doing about 10. We took the steep ravine which, just like its name, was hecka steep. After climbing out of the gorge we stumbled upon these beautiful rolling yellow hills. It may have been Mt. Tam we're still not sure but whatever it was, it was exactly what we needed.

Places I Went

Chrissy Field

Chris, Sophia, Zoe, and I had a nice picnic in Chrissy Field before Zoe moved back to Colorado (we miss ya Zoe!) It was a gorgeous day for some spritzes and a cheeseboard.
