It's almost February and that can only mean one thing... romance! With magical forests, gorgeous walks and plenty of cosy restaurants offering up delicious food, the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is a great place for a romantic break. 

This time of year you'll also find some fantastic offers, from spicing up your life and learning to cook Mexican food or going back to basics with a bushcraft course. As for half-term, there's so much to keep the kids occupied – take a look at our ideas below.

Romantic getaways 


Brayne Court B&B
Enjoy this B&B's spectacular four poster bed in the Jacobean Suite and gorgeous log fire. The sixteenth century, Grade-II listed property, provides an ideal romantic getaway. £200 with bottle of wine for a two night stay.  
 
Tudor Farmhouse
This luxurious package includes: a two-night break (starting on either 13th or 14th Feb or available as a gift) with tasting menu on Valentine’s Day and dinner from the à la carte menu on the other evening. Dean Valley Panorama B&B
Here you can enjoy fantastic views overlooking Welsh mountains and Dean Valley, freshly-cooked breakfast or continental options and a huge bath for two in the Mallard's Pike double room. For any two-night stay between 12th-15th Feb, there's a complimentary box of chocolates, bottle of champagne and red roses when booking direct by phone or through website. £95 per night. 

If you're looking for an intimate meal for two, why not try Wilton Court who are offering a special Valentine's Day menu, as do the Yew Tree Inn who also have a pianist playing during lunch

Package includes: sparkling wine, scented tealights, a glowing woodburner, a red rose on the pillow, scented bubbles for the bath and chocolates. Pamper therapies available for guests at the cottage by prior arrangement! Up to 3 nights £262 (based on two sharing). 

Valentine's Week at Middletown Farm
Package includes: a welcome pack with romantic goodies; sparkling rosé, heart shaped chocolates, pink cup cakes, pink bubble bath, goose eggs from the owners' geese and petals on the bed on arrival. A special couples' massage is even available from a professional masseur and maps of romantic walks are available too. Week commencing Friday 13th February - £320
 
For something different, the International Centre for Birds of Prey are putting on two Valentine Owl evenings on the 13th and 14th Feb! Or why not head to the Drive-in Cinema at the Dive Centre and snuggle up in front of a great film with some snacks? Check here for times and prices. 

Finally St Johns on the Hill Day Nurseries are hosting a Valentines Ball at Chepstow Race Course on the 14th Feb in aid of the British Heart Foundation. £40 per person including drinks reception, 3-course meal and live music.
 

Half-term events


13th-15th Feb - St Valentine’s Beer Festival Weekend at The New Harp Inn with live entertainment and delicious drinks!

Go Medieval at St. Briavels Castle 
Join family fun banquet nights, craft sessions, squire training, learn archery, try a castle tour, explore the dungeons and more! 

17th & 19th Feb - A family day out at Westons Cider 
Kids will love the tractor and trailer rides to see award-winning Hereford cattle, sheep or beautiful shire horses. The play park will also be open with cider mill tours available too.

18th Feb - 'Mother’s Pride’ Children pottery sessions
Mother’s Day is only a month away and to celebrate young potters aged four and up are invited to drop by and make a gift on the potter’s wheel. £15 per child with a 10% discount for three or more places booked. 

19th Feb - Humble by Nature - Meet the animals, learn what’s growing under their feet and make a cheese sandwich by grinding wheat, churning butter and planting tomato seeds. For the first time this year there will be a 'Lamb Cam' up in the café too! 

Activities 

 
Archery or Adventure Ropes 
Instruction in the use of Recurve Bows provides fun and competition for all ages and abilities. The activity takes place at Worcester Lodge with its outstanding views, wonderful scenery and broadleaf woodland! Or climb, swing, jump and dive your way around high ropes activities on an adventure that will push you to your limits! Archery Try Out: £7.50 30min, Archery Taster: £15.00 1hr, Adventure ropes: £20.00   

'Try Caving Events' with Clearwell Caves
Visitors to the lower levels can descend to approximately 65m (210ft) and see interesting mining and natural features! Trips include simple crawling and climbing. Dates: 15th Feb, 18th Feb (3 hrs): Adults £25.00, Child £18.00, 19th Feb, 21st Feb (2hrs): Adults £15, Child £12.00

Of course you can never go wrong with a ride at Perrygrove Railway, a wander through Puzzlewood or choose from our fantastic cycling or canoeing providers for some outdoor fun! 

Rainy day? Why not head to Chepstow Museum, there's 'fleece painting', craft workshops as well as some fantastic exhibitions (for the adults!).
