After the summer holidays, parents will be dying for a break. Tudor Farmhouse are now offering a new package so tired parents (and anyone else) can recharge.

Antique hunting with Speech House Hotel - 24th & 25th September 


TV personality Kate Bliss is hosting the first in this series of special antique breaks. Over two days guests will enjoy drinks, dinners and antique hunting.

Hillside Brewery charity open day - 27th September
Bacon butties, cake and of course, beer! All to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Monmouthshire Walking Festival - 25th Oct-2nd Nov 
In this centenary year of WWI, the Monmouthshire Walking Festival will be commemorating WWI and II.
 
Ross Walking Festival - 26th-28th Sept
There are a lot of tracks and trails on offer for all walking levels as well as cycling, canoeing and cruises in the mix this year, including a forest steam train ride and more.

Forest of Dean parkrun - every Saturday
Run in the forest, a 5km race at your own pace, perfect for those looking to fit in a quick run on holiday! There are lots of sporting events that take place from The Big Woody (Iron Man) to The Wild Boar Chase - check the events section for more information.

Food glorious food...
 
Forest Showcase at Speech House Hotel - 5th October -  this festival will have over 100 stalls of the local favourites, as well as some new things to try - such as a squirrel burger! There is plenty on for foodies and children alike with cooking workshops, live music, arts and crafts. 
 
The Big Apple - 11th & 12th October - our region is famous for its gorgeous apples, tasty ciders and beautiful orchards. This festival celebrates the 25th anniversary of the big apple with eight venues opening up to the public. Events include walks, exhibitions, tastings and tours.


History and culture...
 
Memories Are Made of This - until 12th October - Local artist Mary Edwards will be showcasing her evocative paintings, at Taurus Crafts, representing rural life in rustic snapshots of her life in the Wye Valley.
 
Head to see the 'Men of Iron and Steel' mural in Coleford to pay homage to the industrial revolution and Robert Mushet - the local man who made the first hardened steel railway tracks. 
 
Of course, you can't go wrong with a visit to historical landmark Tintern Abbey. Particularly with the new JMW Turner film coming out this month, now's the time to see the the real thing that inspired several of his paintings. 

But it's not too late to plan for half-term...
 
Dragon Festival at Dean Heritage Centre - 25th and 26th of October
Have you ever met a dragon? Join the Dragon Walkabout and see beautiful baby European dragons. They’re all newly hatched from the Dragon SI put it in anctuary in the Welsh Marshes. Adult tickets £8, concession £7, children £6 (3-16yrs), families of four £25 and families of five £30.
 
Dean Forest Railway Ghost Train - 31st October
Jump in and get ready for a spooky ride as the train rolls along into the dead of night... Come along if you dare! Pre-booking essential. 
 
Halloween at Forest Holidays - 31st October-2nd Nov 
Those staying with Forest Holidays will enjoy twilight walks in the woods or ghost hunting with the Forest Ranger. Then look for bats, take part in a pumpkin carving competition or see if you can win best fancy dress! End the day with a  ‘fright night’ movie with the cabin entertainment system and Forest Retreat spooky quiz.
