This Year's Line-up Taking Shape
As mentioned in our last newsletter, the headliners this year include Le Vent du Nord, http://www.leventdunord.com for Friday night, Coig, http://www.coig.ca/, on Saturday, and Vishten, http://vishtenmusic.com/biography/ on Sunday. Cindy Thompson, our Fiddler in Residence, will be opening for Coig, while the Riverthieves band, http://www.riverthieves.com/ , is confirmed to open for Le Vent du Nord. The Artistic Committee, headed by Nathalie Cleroux, is continuing to invite various performers from Celtfest's past to help us celebrate in fine style!
Planning for Saturday morning Workshops is well underway for 6-7 workshops in three different venues in Almonte. Watch for information on the website, www.almonteceltfest.com for on-line registration for workshops, available in the near future.
Following the workshops, there will be an Anniversary Parade in the downtown core featuring bands, floats, dancers, musicians, clowns, and of course, our very own Liam! We know this will be a fabulous way to lead people into Gemmill Park as the weekend show gets underway!
A Few Changes...
We tried...we really did...to organize a challenge to the Guinness World Book of Records for Most Fiddlers Playing in One Venue, but due to limited availability of volunteers for what proved to be a very arduous effort required for registration of participants as set out by the Guinness guidelines, we decided instead to put our energies into other endeavors. We are still considering other ways to encourage an enthusiastic crowd of fiddling participants in the festivities...we will keep you posted on that!

Once again, Celtfest offers prizes to be raffled in not one, but TWO opportunities. The first ticket draw is about to go on sale at a cost of $5 per ticket, or 3 for $10, draw to take place on Friday July 1st at the Canada Day celebrations in Gemmill Park. Prizes include:

There are lots of other changes in the work, including programming for a second stage venue in the downtown Almonte core, 20th anniversary commemorative beer steins at a cost of $15 each, craft beers offered on site at the Beer Gardens, and changes to Friday Night Pub Night. Go to www.almonteceltfest.com to stay up-to-date with things as plans are confirmed.
There Are Volunteer Opportunities!
Volunteering at Celtfest is half the fun...it really is!! Besides the satisfaction of contributing to the operations of this wonderful festival and enjoying all the excitement, being a volunteer means meeting other great people while sharing a special comraderie! We provide mentorship for the various volunteer roles, a great BBQ meal in June with all the other volunteers, a T shirt, and access to the VIP tent during the festival. This year, we are hoping to arrange for a T shirt decorating workshop so you can make yours unique and comfortable for the July hot weather! You can volunteer for a specific role suited to your time and talents, for as much
or as little time as you wish. We need people of almost all ages in a myriad of ways including parking, gate admissions, surveying of festival attendees, distribution of posters and rack cards, sales of raffle tickets, and other more specialized tasks.
For information about volunteering, please call Trish, our very energetic and approachable Volunteer Coordinator, at 613 294 0319, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As the Raffle Tickets and Sponsorship drives are now getting underway, we are again in need of help from our many supporters. The specific needs at this time include the following:
- people willing to sell tickets for the Raffle either at a venue set up for this purpose, or among friends, family, and associates in your own spheres of influence. Call Cecil at 613 256 7030 if you could help out with the Raffle in any way.
- one or two people interested in the Celtfest mascot, Liam. Call Gavin at 613 229-0692 for further information about Liam and his appearances.
- people willing to drive their car to deliver posters and rack cards in a weekend blitz planned for early June. We are considering having people carpool to ensure the areas surrounding Almonte are saturated with information about our festival, culminating with a kick-off party at the end of the blitz! Don't miss out on this fun! If interested, call Ruth at 613 256 7030.
- people interested in helping with the Little Celtz tent, a special place for the children who attend Celtfest. We need people who like working with children and/or have a talent to offer such as Celtic dance/music, facepainting, crafts, or other ideas. Call Gavin at 613 229 0692 for information
