Celebrating National Health Center Week (August 9 – 15)

A federally qualified health center (FQHC) – or a community health clinic – brings immeasurable value to the community, providing health care services to all people, regardless of the patient’s ability to pay. Two of Healthy Women Houston’s partners are FQHCs, Avenue 360 Health & Wellness and HOPE Clinic, and offer a full complement of women’s health services, from prenatal to postpartum appointments, as well as well-woman exams. FQHCs provide a full range of family planning and contraceptive options, based on a woman’s personal choice, ranging from counseling to long acting reversible contraceptives (LARC). The community clinics continue to see patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, and while a scheduled appointment is preferred, same day appointments may be available at certain locations. Contact the FQHC directly to make an in-person or tele-health appointment.

Healthy Women Houston continues to support current members and as well as enroll new members. Refer a woman today by completing the online referral form

Tools for Change: Webinar Series

Our community continues to experience a horrific and unacceptable number of domestic violence deaths with the majority of these being women of color. We need to advocate for change that shifts from interventions that focus on women leaving to interventions that focus on addressing improving pathways to safety that focus on offender accountability.

In August, the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is hosting a free, four-part Tools for Change Seriesto provide a foundation to equip communities and allies in Houston and the surrounding Harris County to become actively engaged in collaborating and creating systems to empower survivors of domestic violence to navigate the path to safety and break the cycle of domestic violence.

The first event, A Criminal Justice Overview – What Certain Terms Mean, takes place tonight, Thursday, August 6 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Registration and more information on the series can be found online.
