Hi everyone!
Welcome to 2019! My apologies for not sending a newsletter for awhile. I have finally finished building my home, moved in and settled in. Everything is set up nicely and my beautiful large studio is absolutely perfect! It means now I can really truly create artworks again! I'm very excited about new artworks I'm planning, some abstract and some images that are quirky, fantasy, enchanting and some about our Deaf Culture!

I recently won a grant by Regional Arts Victoria who are hosting a 10 year anniversary project for the bushfires of 2009 that devastated Victoria and I will be beginning a set of abstract paintings about the 2009 bushfires that will be exhibited at South Gippsland galleries including the Wonthaggi ArtSpace gallery from 24th March through to April and then Selandra Community Hub space in North Clyde through April and then Melbourne city later in the year. For now I will show an example of one of my abstract works that I did awhile back that relate to bushfires and world happenings below.

Resuming from where we left off.......
Last newsletter you would remember I was beginning a set of illustrations of the baby moon. These illustrations ended up being 14 artworks of gorgeous scenes of Baby Moon doing funny things or being an animated creature! The exhibition in Coburg, Melbourne was a great success with a few of them selling! You can see the images below.

If you like any of them, the ones below are available for sale at $200 each, matt mounted. They are not framed at the moment but if you wish me to get your's framed before sending to you, I'm happy to get it framed for only $50 as a special price.

If you are interested in purchasing one of these baby moon artworks, go to this link at my store to purchase or please get in contact with me by replying directly to this newsletter email.

Moon's Animated........
A sample story board of the developing animation of Deaf Stories of our experiences
More exciting plans for the baby moon series is I will be branching out my art practice to include animation. I did animation and video art ten years ago at a school in Adelaide which proved to be worth it as many people, since seeing my Sad Taxi film recently on youtube, have asked if I will be making more animations and the short answer is yes! I'm inspired to create animations of baby moon as a Deaf character, signing so this is in progress at the moment.

You can see Sad Taxi at this link.
Sad Taxi is about a little yellow vdub that went on an afternoon stroll and heard a ghost crying, a ghost of an old chevy car and went to investigate. He had a spiritual encounter with the ghost.... I'll let you watch the rest! ;)
What else has been happening in the past 2 months.....
Below I finished the last of the cot story series, and this one is probably my favourite of all the cot story paintings.
And portraits!
Above Left: A deaf man who is a Theatre Artist, Peter Blockey commissioned me to do his portrait to celebrate his growth as a theatre artist. He attended the Deaf Arts Flow Festival last year, flying in from Perth and there, we unveiled his portrait much to his delight and surprise! He loved the portrait so much, he has it sitting in pride of place in his dining room. It is a large artwork almost 100 cm by 70 cm. The blue at the top left is his visual thinking, as most Deaf people do and the creative ideas ballon symbolises that.
This is a portrait I was commissioned by a lovely lady who is writing a book for kids with disabilities and this lovely girl was picked to be painted by me. She is a strong girl, standing up for the equal rights and access for everyone with disabilities and her story is in the book being written by Becky Lewis and the book is called Dear Mighty Kids, and will be launched on Kickstarter a bit later this year! This artwork will also be in the book too.
Ok that is all! I think I have covered everything for the last three months, and there will be more to come, more new artworks and art news to look forward to!
