Headlight Care

When the season changes and the days become increasingly shorter, we find ourselves driving in darker times more often. Combined with inclement weather and poor visibility, it's no wonder that more accidents occur during the fall and winter months. One often overlooked aspect of a vehicle's overall safety is it's headlights. Modern day cars have poly carbonate (plastic) headlights, as opposed to the older glass housings that previous era vehicles came equipped with. The benefits of plastic lenses are that they can be molded into seemingly endless shapes and designs, and also are lighter and less susceptible to impact breakage than their glass relatives. However, the nature of all plastics is to eventually decay and oxidize. This presents itself as a yellowing and hazing of the lens, along with reduced clarity. OEM headlights come with a factory applied UV protective coating to prevent premature failure of the plastic. After several years of driving and exposure to the sun and elements, these coatings wear away or degrade, which is in most cases what turns yellow and faded. This causes a reduced light output from the bulbs, and also scatters the beam which can put light where its not supposed to be, whether blinding oncoming drivers or in diffused arrays, not the precise alignment calibrated by the factory to ensure safe, broad coverage of the road ahead. Dim lighting reduces the chances of seeing oncoming hazards sooner, and when your vehicle is traveling at speed, each second equals many many feet in distance. The sooner you see a hazard, the sooner you can react. Wearing a seat belt is the law, so how come having unsafe headlights isn't illegal also? Consider that.
But, these old headlight lenses can be revived and reconditioned to return the clarity and safety back to your car. We are experts when it comes to the process of properly sanding and polishing the old coating off, revealing new plastic beneath. Once this has been refined to a crystal clear state, we can then apply a protective ceramic coating or have clear protective film applied, each contributing to slowing down the aging process and keeping them clear for years to come.
Schedule your vehicle in before you have a close call. Most cases take between 1-2 hours to complete, and are affordable too. Sets start at $89 plus tax and include a ceramic coating. Or, opt in for the clear protective film option for $150.

As you can see, the difference is incredible. Light output is restored, and the vehicle has a new appearance again.
Paint protection film (PPF) can be applied over headlights to prevent rock chips, oxidation and discolouring of the plastic. The best option after a headlight restoration.
