"Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success."
--Edward Everett Hale

Well here we are again, at the start of a new academic year. And what a year it will be! For all our old friends joining as again, welcome back. To all our new queer family members finding themselves in Leiden for the first time, welcome to our queerAF family.
Over the summer LUPride has revamped, reinvented and redressed itself. We have a new motto (queerAF), a new mission (to be a safe, inclusive and community-focused platform for LGBTQ+ students, staff and friends of Leiden University – both in Leiden and The Hague) and a new board! Our aim this year is to queer up Leiden (and the Hague) student life. And we will do this in true fabulous style.
Kicking off this academic year, we have two lecture series planned – ‘Queer Love, Relationships and Sex’ and ‘A Day in a Queer Life’. The former will take a look at polyamory, consent and other topics, while the second will look at LGBTQ+ identity and various daily aspects such as Academia, Mental Health, Employment and more. Keep tuned to our Facebook event to see when and where such events will take place. In addition, we are keeping our famous borrels, but with a slight shake up. Sometimes they will be in Leiden and sometimes in The Hague. So join us at either location to mix things up and meet new people! And don’t forget our ‘Meet a Board Member’ initiative before events if you don’t feel like showing up without knowing anyone.
With all that set, we hope you enjoy the next year at Leiden University and we wish you lots of queer luck and success (the best kind of obviously) in your studies. We hope to meet you soon!

Love is love is love,
Tiaan Westenberg, Acting Chair

It's time for a hot tea and a good movie
Let's close with our recomendations, for letting you have a queer AF month! In the next four weeks we will discuss about relationships and academia, so what is better than "Loving Annabelle" (2006), directed and wrote by Katherine Brooks and based on the classic lesbian drama "Mädchen in Uniform (but definetely less suicidal)? What a Catholic school teacher should do if she falls in love with one of her students? in this movie we followe the love story between the teenager Annabelle (Erin Kelley) and the teacher Simone (Diane Gaidry), and while we watch this love story developing among drama, sapphic energy, sensuality, and secrecy, we question ourselves on whether it make sense to impose a age boundary to love...or any boundary at all.
Here the Trailer.

See you soon
