Seasons of Change

“What sexual preference do you hope she has?”
"Happiness.” Isn't that cool?”
― Francesca Lia Block, Weetzie Bat

Welcome to 2018, the year on which ride so many of our expectations. Let's face it, 2017 was crazy in all ways – the best and worst, the sad and the happy, the good and the bad.
We have a lot of things in store for this upcoming year and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for always being there for us. Here's to us!

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2015, available on Netflix). The reason I like this show is that all the relationships, the gay (male) relationship which appears halfway through the first season is possibly the healthiest and most stable of all the shenanigans that mascaraed as (straight) relationships in this show. It also helps that there are usually 1 or 2 musical numbers per episode. In addition, I loved how the gay character did not need to ‘come out’ – introduced early on in the show, his sexuality is subtly revealed, no fanfare needed for the show to make a point that it has a gay character. This, however, is not the case for the bi character (yes, there is also bi representation!) with an entire musical number dedicated to their coming out and destroying the stereotypes that exist around the concept of being bi (it is called ‘Getting Bi’ and it is glorious). Overall, the show is funny, intelligent and progressive and I can’t recommend it enough - Tiaan.
Thank you to everyone who came to our New Year Gala at De Hooykist! Here's to a proud new 2018!
