Day 9, the final day of my Epic Journey had arrived. We had done more than 800km on the saddle, and probably climbed more than 10 000m in the 8 days so far.
The day, as usual started with me trying to get the sore body to move after spending the night on a mattress on a tent floor. After a good breakfast we all headed to the start line. As I looked around at my fellow racers, I thought to myself this was a bittersweet moment. Tomorrow my bum would not be in a saddle again, I would not be sleeping in a tent again. I would however also not be laughing and riding our beloved country with my friends again, creating so many extraordinary and special memories. So far, we Docs had always crossed the finish line together and today would be no exception. We stayed true to the Doc motto and left no one behind. Shaun unfortunately was not well enough to ride, so Brett kindly stepped in as my partner. As was our group’s custom, we started the day with our morning dance, some of us displaying far more rhythm than others. We then sang Happy Birthday to Glen and Tim. We knew today would be muddy, but after day 3’s muddy conditions, we weren't scared of mud.
