It is almost time for Bruno Ferreira and his family to be leaving the sunny shores of South Africa for the European winter, but luckily the coastal town of Algarve in Portugal is not a bad place to live.  Wishing you all of the best in the next chapter of your life's journey and may you make bucket-loads of Euros so you can buy more bicycles.

Housekeeping - Save the Date

SOCIAL 'get to know everyone' RIDE ON SATURDAY - 12 December 

This will be the only group ride taking place next Saturday.
Leave from Rietvlei at 07h00 and cycle through to The Circus for breakfast and cycle back as a group.

Saturday - 12 December - Kiddie Christmas Night Ride
  1. Start arriving at The Circus from 16h00 to start at 17h00 sharp.  
  2. Lap around the grounds is 4km so the 'Race Snake' kiddies can do two laps.
  3. Meal order to be placed before the start - Kiddie menu & Pizza menu.
Final details & RSVP link will be posted next week.  How are the Christmas outfits looking?  

Sunday - 13 December - DOC water point at the Midvaal 100 Miler
We are looking for volunteers to assist.  Please contact Des - details below.

Xmas Vaal Ride on Sunday, 6th December

 


Rand Water Board departure (2 groups):
Registration will open at 06h45
Leave promptly at 07h30

Circus departure (1 group):
Registration will open at 07h00
Leave promptly at 07h30
 
  1. We will leave from Rand Water Board in 2 groups and will ride together all the way, in true Christmas spirit.  Groups will be split on the day.
  2. Feel free to add some sparkly Christmas cheer to your bike.
  3. If you have not registered & paid, you will not be allowed to ride further than the Circus. 
  4. Please allow extra time to register and start arriving at Rand Water Board by 06h45.
  5. Meal tickets will be given to you at registration (keep in a safe place or else you do not get to eat).
  6. Remember to bring your buff. 
  7. Entry to Stilbaai is R30 – please have exact amount available.
  8. Covid protocol to be adhered to by all at Water Point.
  9. Strictly 2-abreast on the tar roads please.
Saturday – 5th
06h00 - meet at Engen garage on R59 and drive through to Stilbaai, or just meet there.
07h30 (sharp) - cycle back as a group to Rietvlei.  Pace 20km average and no support vehicle.

Waterpoint at 50km - you will be served:
Ice cold Coke, water, banana bread, dough nut, date squares & sweeties   

On the menu:
Spit braai (chicken, beef, lamb), garlic potatoes, salad & rolls. 
Dessert - Apple tart with ice cream.
Our awesome caterer, Charles Moulder can be reached on 079 788 0848 should you need his services over the festive season.

Weekend Ride Schedule

Please continue to practice social distancing, i.e. no hugging, do not ride if you have been in contact with anyone who is positive, do not ride if you are not feeling well, have your buff handy - we all know the rules by now! 

  • For those coming out of hibernation, please check the average speed below and slot into the group relevant to your fitness level.
  • Routes will be decided on the day.
  • Groups will be split if too large.
  • All rides leave from Rietvlei.  
  • Subject to weather conditions.
                             

Weekday Nights' Ride Schedule


 

TUESDAY NIGHT RIDE 
(Now every Tuesday night with alternating Ride Captains)
Ride Captains:  The Bat Team (Mike & Glenda) 
or
Ride Captains:  Whispering Captains (Graham & Tania)
Distance:  30/35km at a chilled pace of 16/18 average km/h
 
WEDNESDAY NIGHT RIDE
Race Snakes:  leaving at 18h00 at an average speed of 22/23 km/h
Green group:  leaving at 18h30 at an average speed of 21/22km/h
Mellow Yellow group:  leaving at 18h30 at an average speed of 16/18km/h.

All night rides are subject to having a minimum of 8 riders.
