FATHER WALTER'S MESSAGE
July 30, 2014
WELCOMING THE NEW
Dear Parishioners & Friends,
Father Walter is on vacation and has encouraged all of us to rest, read, and revive our faith. Now that he is back, let us show one another the goodness we found in our hearts over the summer.
From the Catholic Council of Bishops for July 30
The Gospel
MT 13:47-53
Jesus said to the disciples:
“The Kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,
which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore
and sit down to put what is good into buckets.
What is bad they throw away.
Thus it will be at the end of the age.
The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous
and throw them into the fiery furnace,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.”
“Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.”
And he replied,
“Then every scribe who has been instructed in the Kingdom of heaven
is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom
both the new and the old.”
When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.
God Bless YOU, all readers of this weekly communication.
THANK YOU PARISH VOLUNTEERS FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS TO KEEP EVERYTHING GOING THIS SUMMER.

CBS NEWS REPORTS: IT WILL TAKE MORE THAN MONEY TO FIX IMMIGRATION PROBLEMS . . .
As Congress reconvenes this week focused on dealing with President Obama's $3.7 billion request to handle the influx of unaccompanied children streaming across the U.S.-Mexico border, Republican lawmakers are already signaling they have big changes they want to make.
"Our view I think as House Republicans, is, look, we're not going to write a blank check for $4 billion," said Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said on "Fox News Sunday" echoing comments from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, last week. . . . .
But if Republicans were to prevail and Mr. Obama went along with the changes, he would risk the wrath of some prominent Latino advocacy groups who arealready angry with him for record levels of deportations during his presidency.
"The United States has been historically a nation that has led efforts on refugee and humanitarian crises, so we expect no less than the same response. Why should children from Central America be treated differently?" said Cristina Jimenez, the co-founder and managing director of United We Dream, a group that advocates for young immigrants.

Tell President Obama: We Need Relief for All!
On June 30th, President Obama signaled to the nation that he is ready to take executive action to keep families together. After years of fighting for humane and real immigration reform, this is welcome news for our communities, who hope that Presidential relief can provide an end to deportations and the ability to work legally.
But we cannot take any relief for granted. The current humanitarian crisis of unaccompanied children coming to the border – and to New York - has triggered an anti-immigrant backlash that could delay and completely undo any major Administrative Relief. We must act NOW and we must act aggressively to ensure the President makes good on his promise and that he provides the BROADEST possible Administrative Relief for our communities.
Can we count on you? Here’s what you can do TODAY to join us in our new #ALLIn4Relief Campaign:
TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA: We Need Relief for All!
CALL: (866) 473-5915
Tell Him: "I'm from [City, State, Community], I urge President Obama to keep his promise to fix as much of the immigration system as possible. The President has the authority to alleviate the suffering of our community. We ask him to provide the broadest possible administrative relief to our immigrant communities NOW!"
