State Budget 2021-22

Dear Friends of Tenants Victoria,

We’ve been reviewing the Victorian Budget through the lens of the state’s two million renters.

Tenants Victoria warmly welcomes the big investments in mental health – this is an expression of the type of long-term social infrastructure we need to build social and human capital in our state. We commend Treasurer Tim Pallas and acting Premier James Merlino for their foresight in framing this response.

As renters will be all too aware, many people are still feeling the impacts of no less than three public health lockdowns – and there’s huge demand from renters for our services.

The end of the federal JobKeeper payment and reductions in JobSeeker, alongside the end of the State Government’s pandemic rental support program, remain as pressure points in our community for many renters.

The demand for Tenants Victoria’s services will continue to be high – there is already considerable unmet demand. Along with our community legal centre colleagues, we will work to find innovative ways to meet this intense need for tenancy services and look forward to continuing our constructive discussions with the Victorian Government on framing solutions over the next period.

Read our Victorian Budget reaction.

Yours sincerely,
