SGM INVITATION

JANUARY 26th, 2021
We acknowledge that we live, work, and play on the ancestral, traditional, and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) peoples.
SGM Invitation

We would like to invite RFSS members to our Special General Meeting on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021 from 6 pm - 6:45 pm via Google Meet Video Conferencing.

RFSS members can RSVP directly by emailing director@richmondfoodsecurity.org and a google meeting invite will be sent to you a week prior.

The Charities Directorate writes that "The purposes set out in the Constitution filed on November 14, 2019 under the Societies Act of British Columbia are worded using broad and vague language that does not restrict it to activities that are considered charitable at law.

To qualify for registration, an applicant must be established exclusively for charitable purposes and it must devote its resources to activities carried on to further those charitable purposes."

The Society must amend its Constitution for the sake of applying for charitable status.

Be it resolved that the current Purposes of the society be deleted, and replaced with:

1. To advance education in the Richmond area by:

  • organizing and providing courses, workshops, lectures on gardening, food skills, food preservation, food literacy, food harvesting, cooking skills, nutrition, seed planting, collection
and diversity, and the interconnectedness of the food supply system and its environmental impact, to the community at large; and

  • providing programs and project-based learning in gardening, apiculture, food literacy, food system dynamics, and advocacy in health, sustainability and social justice to elementary and
    secondary students.

2. To relieve poverty by donating gleaned fruits, collected from local fruit tree owners, to food banks and other organizations that are qualified donees.

3. To provide a public amenity in the city of Richmond by managing and maintaining public garden plots for city residents, and providing a publicly accessible regionally adapted seed collection (seed library) for residents to plant and collect local heritage seeds.

We hope to see you there!
