Head Master's Newsletter | 22nd November 2019

With term whizzing by, I am so pleased to shine a light on yet more of the incredible achievements our children have made over the last week!

The weekend was a sporting spectacular with a fabulous morning of rugby against Emanuel that led Dulwich Prep London to some superb wins. The afternoon saw our swimmers competing in the ESSA finals and coming in the top ten nationally. All the boys did brilliantly and we even got a mention on the big screens in the Olympic Pool for our Movember campaign.

Monday saw some of our Year 6 boys working on their ISEB tests. The boys showed grace and courage whilst the boys of families who have chosen to wait to sit exams until 13 had the opportunity to undertake other activities. It has been a busy week for our Year 6 ISEB cohort, but they have taken it in their stride and we are confident in their academic strength and that we will soon be feeding back some very exciting news in this regard.

The Pre-Prep strings concert was wonderful this week. It is amazing to see how harmonious and confident our Year 2 pupils are in both solo pieces and group work in front of a full house of parents, children and staff. A big thank you and a well done to each boy who took part.

Last night Mr Sperring gave his Leake Lecture on working in the theatre. The lecture was so well attended and the interest and questions from parents and boys meant that we could have gone on for at least another hour!

Today we are lucky enough to be the only school that world famous author Jeff Kinney is visiting on his UK tour to talk about his Wimpy Kid Diaries which are, for many boys, a key to their first engagement with self instigated reading.

The Movember team are raring to go this weekend with now nearly £10,000 raised and every lane being swam in for the 24 hours. Thank you all for your support and encouragement. Those of you following us on twitter will see that we have some amazing celebrities and sports people willing the team on... for those of you as old as myself... even Duncan Goodhew!

Finally look out for the Head Master’s Study Art Competition details below.... I am really looking forward to showcasing a piece of art from every section and encourage every child to have a go!

U11 Polo Team News

On Tuesday afternoon the U11 polo team made the short journey down to the College to partake in a joint training session.  After some initial skill-focused drills, the boys split themselves into mixed matches.  It was a wonderful afternoon of teamwork and the boys made great progress.  With a match against the Oratory fast approaching, this was an excellent opportunity to refine those crucial match-based skills.
