Dear <<First Name>>,
The noun ‘Awakening’ refers to the act or moment of becoming suddenly aware of something.
I recently listened to a speaker who discussed the way many famous awakenings are documented in sacred texts and the real meaning of suddenly coming to a realization after a traumatic experience. It is as if it takes a certain level of stress to allow us to break through our self-imposed limitations and perceive a different reality on the other side of those experiences.
It seems as if we humans tend to focus on what is in front of us without being able to see what is around us. Unless we are subjected to those stresses, we are unable to open our eyes to what is possible or available.
The talk reminded me that many times what counts in life is our ability to be open minded and be able to understand other people’s perspectives.
During this election season of politically charged statements, accusations, slander, and misinformation, it seems like we Americans are moving away from the ability to find common ground. I like what I read in a recent article in The Economist: healthy politics involves compromise and the insight that your opponent can be honorable and principled.
May we all have an awakening on November 9th, that the traits which make our nation great are its strength and its diversity; the acceptance of the rule of law; the acceptance of each other’s individuality; the willingness to build upon what our forefathers built; and the ability to compromise to make things better for our families and our communities.
