September 2019 e-bulletin
To your Essex Shed Network monthly e-bulletin. This month: being one of Taylor Wimpey's chosen charities, the Essex Shed Network Health Awareness and Networking day, Beacon Shed opening event, Men's Sheds on the radio and more...
The Essex Shed Network held a Health Awareness & Networking Day on the 10th September at Essex Cricket Ground, Chelmsford.

The day was well attended and Shedders listened to presentations from Dementia Friends, Open Road and Time to Change. There was also a Men's Health Forum quiz hosted by former Maldon Shed member turned quiz master Steve Troop and an open Q&A session with a panel of Shed experts including Tim Larden, MD of Ladbrook Insurance (insurers to Men's Sheds across the UK).

It was great to see so many Shedders from different Sheds across the county, not only engaging with the presentations and making the most of the Q&A panel, but also comparing notes amongst each other and benefiting from the support of the network. We have had some good feedback from the day and in answer to all those who asked 'when is the next one?' the answer is soon! We are planning a big event for May/June 2020 so watch this space...
Essex Shed Network are grateful to have been selected by Taylor Wimpey as one of the two charities to which they will provide support for 2019/2020.
Not only will Essex Sheds be offered surplus materials from Taylor Wimpey's sites across Essex, but we were also invited to attend a charity golf day dinner at Five Lakes Resort, Maldon on the 11th September where we gave a presentation before guests took part in a charity auction, the results of which we hope to share soon!
Back in April this year BBC Radio 4's World at One ran a feature about loneliness. They interviewed an 80 year old gentleman who described how he was suffering with loneliness and the effects of social isolation. In response a listener called in and suggested that he look into Men's Sheds... Listen in from 39 minutes to hear what happened
The Beacon Shed is opening soon!
Its been a three year project but the Beacon Shedders and their hosts, The Beacon Thundersley Congregational Church, are proud and happy to see all their hard work now coming to fruition and the Shed will officially open on Wednesday 2nd October 2019.

All are welcome from 12.15pm for refreshments and tours of the Shed and to find out more about the incredible work the Beacon Shedders have done to get to this point. Staff from the Essex Shed Network will be there in support and also available to answer any questions about Men's Sheds in general.
