YEARBOOKS ARRIVED - Enjoy looking at your child's  memories. Everyone should receive their books this week,  except for 5th grade, they will receive their books after the week of STAAR, as they celebrate with their teachers signing the yearbook. 

YEARBOOKS FOR SALE - Very few left if you forgot to order, this is your last chance. I will be setting up a station to sell the extra ones on Monday, May 15th between 7:30 and 8:30 am, inside the school at the front entrance. The price of the book is $40. Please bring cash or checks only, make checks to Frostwood PTA. If we still have books left, I will set up another table on the same day,  same spot,  between 2:13 and 3:15pm . First come first served, there will not be any books reserved without payments, apologies.

 SPIRIT WEAR - New Spirit Wear Is Here! This may be your only chance to order. Instead of long lines at Meet the Teacher, we are doing a PRE-ORDER for next years Spirit Wear items!

Order NOW either online or by filling out and returning the order form below with a check.  All orders must be received by this Wednesday, May 10th

All orders must include purchasing the $5 backpack (for packaging purposes). Your items will be pre-packaged and waiting for your child in their new classroom at Meet the Teacher in August. Don’t forget to order for kids, parents, grandparents, Teacher gifts etc.

PORTFOLIO SHARING - Please mark your calendars and plan to come spend a morning with your child looking through all of the work in their school portfolio! They will share writing, science, social studies, math, and art with you that they have worked on throughout the school year. Please sign in at the front office when you arrive. Parents that arrive early will be asked to sign in and remain in the community room until 8:10 am, when attendance and morning announcements have concluded. Please avoid parking in the staff parking spaces in the Gessner side parking lot. In the past, some parents have chosen to bring a breakfast treat to share with their child during this time. Parents typically spend 30-45 minutes with their child.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TRANSITION MEETING - There will be a 5th to 6th Grade Transition Parent Meeting on Monday, May 15h at 9 am in the Frostwood Community Room.  All fifth grade parents are invited to join us for a Q&A session with the Grade Level Counselor about campus life at MMS. Current MMS moms will be available to answer questions about preparing your child for middle school.  Please join us!

KINDER ORIENTATION FOR PRIVE SCHOOL STUDENTS - There will be an Open House for incoming kindergarten students who are currently attending a private preschool and will be attending Frostwood in 2017-2018. If you have a preschooler in a private preschool or know a friend who does, please invite them to our Open House on Tuesday, May 16th @ 1:00 pm. One of our kindergarten teachers will briefly talk about Kindergarten and we will tour the kindergarten classes. SUMMER READING BOOK FAIR - Please mark your calendars! Summer Reading Book Fair is coming! Preview Day is Monday, May 15th.  Shopping days are Tuesday through Thursday (May 16th - 18th).  More information on class shopping days will be sent out soon!

SBEF COOKIN' FOR A CAUSE - Spring Branch Education Foundation Young Leaders are hosting Cookin’ for a Cause, the Foundation’s 2nd annual BBQ Cook-off on Saturday, May 20, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Teams are invited to sharpen their knives, tweak their recipes and compete for bragging rights for the best BBQ in Spring Branch ISD.  In addition to bragging rights for the best barbeque in the district, the day will include lots of family fun. Kids will enjoy a game truck, a petting zoo, face painting and more. Chris Johnson and The Imports will perform throughout the afternoon. There’s a new, convenient location this year – 10225 Katy Freeway (formerly Sports Authority). Tickets, available at the gate, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.; $20 for adults and $6 for children; kids under 6 are free. Thank you, James and Mallory Shaddix, for signing on as the events first sponsor. Other sponsorships are available at the $750, $1,500, $3,000 and $5,000 levels. Sponsors receive 1 team, event tickets and drink tickets. The $5,000 Pitmaster Sponsor will also receive naming rights. For more information click here.



 FIFTH GRADE FAREWELL VIDEOS - Videos of the Frostwood Farewell concert are available for purchase. Please click on the image below for a full-size, printable version of the Frostwood Farewell Video Order Form.  

We only have a few more choir practices before our concerts for the annual Fifth Grade Farewell to Frostwood Concerts: (May 16th dress rehearsal at 9:15 a.m. and May 17th 6:30 p.m.) Please be sure that the chorus uniform – especially the pants- still fit. 

Students who have been assigned special parts, please mark your calendars for the next round of 7:15 a.m. morning cafeteria rehearsals before our concert.  (Note I had made a few mistakes on the previous letter- The one below is correct.)  

May 11th and 12th will be reserved for any singing groups who need extra practice before the concert. 

SIGHTREADING TEAM - Every Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m. the Sightreading Team practices in the music room for the choir festival which will be on Tuesday, May 23rd at 12:00- 1:15 at Spring Forest Middle School. 

Students will need to wear their uniforms for this festival. All parents are welcome to come and hear us at this SBISD Elementary Choir Festival. 


 4TH GRADE RECORDER RECITALSAs you all know, the fourth graders have been working on learning to read music notes and applying this skill as they learn to play the recorder, one of the first woodwind instruments. I expect the fourth graders to bring their recorders and recorder books to school each music day. I also expect them to practice their songs at home for at least 15- 20 minutes each week. I hope that the students have found the website: www. a fun way  to practice their songs using their individually assigned online access codes. 

I expect most students to progress to at least star 9 by the middle of May so that they will be able to perform in the music classroom recitals.

Below are the dates for the classroom recorder recitals which parents may attend if they wish. All parents are invited to attend their child’s block music class on that day.  All of the times for the recitals are: 9:35-10:25 except for the Thursday block. 

MONDAY BLOCK: aka “The Grammy’s” MAY 22nd 

TUESDAY BLOCK: aka “The MP3’s” Tuesday, May 30th 

WEDNESDAY BLOCK: aka “Two Rockin’ Beats” Wednesday, May 31st 

*THURSDAY BLOCK: aka: “The Electric Beats” Thursday, May 25th at 9:45 -10:35. 

*Note that Thursday, May 25th is also field day. If you wish to attend, please plan to enter the school at the front office for the recitals.

 PTA COMMITTEE CHAIRS - Looking for a way to get more involved at Frostwood? There are several unfilled PTA jobs for the 2017-2018 school year! Please consider being a chairperson for one of these great committees! Please contact Courtney Anderson if you are interested in helping out. Thank you!

5th Grade DARE - Assist in organizing the Memorial Villages Police Department to work with 5th grade students on “teaching students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives.”  

Academic Events - The chair would be a promoter and advocate of academic events such as UIL, Odyssey of the Mind, and Math Olympiad on our campus, maintain a calendar of events, and celebrate our participants.  The Chairs are notresponsible for coaching teams or being present at all the events.

Classroom Substitute Coordinator - Assist in obtaining and scheduling parents certified by the district to cover teacher classroom assignments when we have special on campus training for the teachers.

Gifted and Talented Liaison - Communicate information between school and district level

Healthy Lifestyles - The Healthy Lifestyles Chair oversees a team of volunteers that manage the once-a-week Salad Bar in the cafeteria, the educational garden program with Urban Harvest, the Orchard, the Food Services Chair and partners with Green Tigers, KSHAC and The Prairie due to our similar mission. The Chair can also expand the program with different fitness programs. The Chair is invited to participate in DSHAC meetings as well as the local CSHAC. All sub-chairs of Healthy Lifestyles are returning so it is a great team to continue forward!

Positive Works - +Works (“Positive Works”) is a non-profit organization focused on using positive community change to address bullying and other issues facing children and families.  Parents, teachers, and students have come together to lead a +Works movement and build a positive community on Frostwood’s campus.  
This chair would communicate and work directly with the +Works organization. 

PTA Membership - Collect and submit parent membership applications - most work in the Fall

Reflections - Promote the Reflections contest, collect entries, and hold a recognition party for participants.

Salad Bar - Oversee the preparation and distribution of the Salad Bar on specified salad bar days in the cafeteria

Teacher Resources - Assist the teachers in laminating, coping, and other needs they may have for their classrooms

Sister School Solutions - Schedule volunteers for regular shifts and special needs at our sister school, Housman 


STAFF APPRECIATION - Staff Appreciation week was May 1st-5th. Thanks to your generous financial contributions, our fabulous staff enjoyed a week of lunches and treats!

Monday - A delicious array of Syrian delights hosted by Dina Nasif. Desserts provided by Corrie Palmer and Leslie Torres.

Tuesday - Lunch in the lovely garden catered by Zoe's Kitchen and hosted by Amber SandersCourtney AndersonNeely BesetsnyAra HardigKristi VoinisMarion Thames and KSHAC.

Wednesday - A tasty Potbelly treat hosted by Katherine Gring and Courtenay Nichols. Homemade desserts were provided by Julie Perry,  Marcia Edmonds and Heather Springer.

Thursday - A Turkish feast catered by Empire Turkish Grill, who graciously donated the appetizers and dessert. Hosted by Tori Shahbazi and Ifest Committee 

Friday - Tex-Mex fiesta from Guadalajara donated by Fabian Torres and hosted by Clayton Gring and the Dad’s Club volunteers. Desserts donated by Churassco's. 

If you see one of these ladies or gentlemen, please thank them for planning, preparing for and serving the staff.  A huge thank you to the teachers and staff for all that they do for our children!

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION - Thank you to all of the families participating in the Box Tops Submission Program! It is an easy way to earn money for Frostwood! We have 2 submissions per year. For the fall submission, we earned $228.90 and for the spring submission, we earned $245.20!
Total money raised with Box Tops for FWE was $474.10!

No more Box Top submissions until next fall, so remember to collect your box tops this summer! Please remember that box tops do have expiration dates, so please do not submit any box tops that have expired. Please click on the image below for a full size printable form.

CAMPBELL LEARNING CENTER CONCERT - Join us at Campbell Learning Center (1440 Campbell Road) for a free concert featuring Shawn Renzoh Head and his Japanese Shakuhachi flute. He will perform a variety of works from four centuries ago to music from almost yesterday. He will also discuss the history of his flute and how it started as a private buddhist life practice, to an internationally known and practiced instrument. Doors open at 6pm, concert begins at 6:30. The concert is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!
