Housman Needs Our Help!  The Giving Tree is a VOLUNTARY opportunity for individuals and families to give and help some of our families in need during Christmas time.  To make things less complicated, we would appreciate donations of  Gift Cards from Wal-mart or Target in increments of $5 and $10. The total amount is entirely up to you, but please stick to these increments so the distribution process will be  as even as possible to the families in need. You can drop them off with Laura at the front desk at Frostwood or give them directly to Mr. Reyes at Housman Elementary. The final date to contribute will be December 12, 2014.  Prior to Christmas vacation Mr. Reyes will distribute to the families accordingly.  Why Wal-mart & Target? This way the families can do all their shopping at one place and possibly buy some groceries. Family’s grocery bills will go up those 2 weeks with their kids being on vacation and we can possibly be a double blessing. Also, there is a Wal-mart and a Target nearby.  If you have any questions, feel free to call  Chrissy Dunn at 713-823-7950

Student Council News
Student Council has been very busy this month!  We have adopted a family from our sister school for the year.  This family has had many hardships in a few short months.  They have 3 girls, one is a 2nd grader who developed a  STAFF infection after a fall and had to have several (12) surgeries, dad had a heart attack while Angie was in the hospital and mom had a car accident while traveling between hospitals!  We are selling candy canes to help raise money so they can have a very Merry Christmas!  We will be selling candy canes December 10th and December 17th, so please send in a dollar to buy a candy cane from us. The money we raise will help buy the family a Christmas dinner. The SC members have generously decided to use their money to help buy the children presents to put under their tree!  It amazes us how these kids want to help those in need!  We appreciate your willingness to give a little at this time of year!  The SC Teacher Reps!  If you have any questions-email  (back to top)

Library Corner

It's Hop-to-It time in the Frostwood Library again.  For all students in grades Kindergarten through Second grade. The purpose of the Hop-To-It Reading Incentive Program is to encourage a balance of reading Fiction and Non-fiction outside of school.  The objective is for Kinder and 1st grade students to read 30 books, e-books, or non-fiction web reading (example: National Geographic online website about tigers), 15 non-fiction, and 15 fiction.   Students in 2nd grade will read a total of 1,000 minutes, 20 minutes a day reading both fiction and non-fiction.  Parents will fill out the Hop-to-It Reading Log each time a child reads.  Click here for Hop To It Reading Logs.   Students who fill out their sheet with number of books read will be invited to a special “Hop-to-It” party with games and fun treats in February.  Each child will also receive recognition and a certificate, a bookmark, and an ice cream coupon for their effort.  The program starts on November 24th and goes through January 20th.

Book Drive - Frostwood is conducting a book drive for the holidays to benefit a local all-volunteer non-profit, Good Steward Global Initiative.  Good Steward addresses the book famine that that prevents children and adults in many developing countries from learning to read. It does this by taking donated books, using volunteers to sort them and then shipping these books to developing countries to create libraries. Good Steward’s name comes from the fact that it leverages it efforts--using free labor and donated books that might otherwise be in a land fill.  It has stocked over 200 such libraries; and is looking for books and volunteers to do still more.  You can learn more about Good Steward and where the books that the school is collecting are bound by going to Good Steward’s web-site, .  There, you can also learn about opportunities for volunteers to sort books.
Thank you, Lisa Branon, Librarian

Green Tigers

Friday December 12th is Walk, Bike, Scoot to School Day. DON'T FORGET TO TELL YOUR CHILD'S TEACHER IF THIS EVENT CAUSES A CHANGE IN AFTERNOON TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS!  Our next meeting is Thursday December 18th at 7:15 am in the Library.  In conjunction with Chain Reaction, Green Tigers will be hosting a community wide Bike Recycling Event on January 24th from 12-2.  If there are any old adult or kid bikes in your garage or yard, please save them until January 24th! No matter what condition, they will be restored and given to families in need.  Please click here to see more information on the attached flier and share this information with family and friends across SBISD!

Here are some fun "Green" reminders for the holidays.

  • Did you know you can recycle your Christmas Tree?
  • And please use the green and yellow Abitibi recycling bins at Frostwood on Gessner Avenue for cardboard and paper.
  • Finally, please do not pour grease from your turks, roast beef, etc. down the drain.  It causes havoc on your pipes- and those of the whole neighborhood.  Save it in a container, throw it in the trash or best of all recycle it! To find a recycle location see and click on the "recycle search" on the very top of the left hand page.
