This month's photo is a collage of my most recent Instagram posts. I find I am enjoying this medium a lot more than other social media because it is completely visual. The first photo is my latest dress-for-evening-tarot-events; then me doing tarot readings in front of a gypsy caravan at Fairground Follies recently; my bicycle in all its shining glory, a moth that landed on my bicycle; my latest acquired deck: The Burning Serpent Oracle by Rachel Pollack & Robert M. Place and my own version of last month's tarot card of the month - The Three of Swords a.k.a the Thrice Needled Tomato Heart!

Now I'll have to think of what I'm going to create for the Moon - this card's Tarot Card of the Month. Watch this space to see what I come up with!

More about the photo of me and the gypsy caravan: Fairground Follies is an excellent antique mechanical music museum in St Peters that is often used for events. The gypsy caravan is apparently from the 1800s. I would love to have a caravan of my own, but for now I love doing readings in my tarot salon. I also have a hearty appreciation for easeful access to running water, the toilet and yummy food downstairs at Suzy Spoon's Vegetarian Butcher. So that is a dream for a much later time :-)

Tarot Card of the Month ~ The Moon

For those who are reading this newsletter for the first time, every month I talk about the tarot card that appears the most in the month's tarot readings. Even though the cards will always have individual significance, a commonly occurring card can also have a say about what's going on for the whole community.

Usually the trickiest part to selecting the Card of the Month is trying to recall which card was the main contender. There are normally at least two that are vying for the top spot so I have to dive into the memory banks.

The trickiest part to this month's selection was choosing which Moon cards to scan in and upload as your visual guides. Usually there are only 3-4 cards that are ideal or not too similar to each other and meet my requirements for interest or beauty or introspection or amusement.

But oh my goodness, do you know how many excellent Moon cards there are? It clearly must be most tarot artists' favourite card to create! So I’ve upped the inclusion to 5 cards this month because I love them all so much and want you to see as many as possible!

Ah, The Moon. I realised the card of the month would be The Moon just after the full moon. What a ride that moon takes us on every month! All that water pulling and pushing, all that shiny glowing, and that's before we get to all the metaphors!

Our friend The Moon asks us to dive deep, to go within, to look into the abyss and find pleasure in reaching in and pulling out previously too-hard-to-deal-with memories and dreams.

It asks us to illuminate what we most need to see, and because we start to embody the need for insight, we spark that curiosity in others too.

Sometimes things can be concealed with The Moon because it is so mysterious, but these things can never stay hidden for long.

Even the hiding is an illusion, and if we are really honest with ourselves, we start to look silly the moment we try to keep something secret that really needs to be vocalised and seen.

Everyone is just looking at us anyway, knowing what we are hiding (on a subconscious level at the very least) so we may as well as be upfront! Who are we to think we can be more mysterious than the moon?!

And now, if I were to give captions for each of the depicted tarot cards they would be:

For the Alchemical Tarot: "Come take a stroll in the moonlight. I have some business I want to share with you and I think you are strong enough to handle it."

For the Tarot del Bosque Magico: "Make way for the strange and unearthly stories straight from the bottom of the abyss! We don't yet know if we will cry or laugh, but we will face these stories all the same!"

For the Tarot of the Cat People: "I seek where others are afraid to look. I answer to no one and I know what is best for my journey."

For Stella's Tarot: Be focussed only on that which is enigmatic. The ready-made stories are too removed from reality for our liking."

And for the Tarot of the Crone: "Gaze into my eyes only if you are willing to unravel and take responsibility for all that you have suppressed up until now."

Woah. That Tarot of the Crone, man. It makes me take a sudden intake of breath with the intensity it inspires. Hooray for Crone energy!

And hooray for The Moon. May your dealings with The Moon this month take you to interesting places in yourself where it is safe to be mysterious and wonderful to be open.

Cheerio & best wishes,
Sarah Barry (Psychic Sarah)

P.S Want more tarot stories? I post a Tarot Reading for the Collective on my website every month.

My August Reading uses the Tarot of the Crone by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince, and with it some kick-ass messages from the crones themselves.

This deck is a new favourite of mine, and The Moon also makes an appearance in this reading. Read on for the fabulous and slightly terrifying wisdom that comes from a Gathering of Crones.

(I generally post the Tarot Reading for the Collective in the first week of every month.)
