Tarot tales from Newtown, Sydney, with a brief mention perhaps, of chai and other fascinating things.
Does this email look odd and lacking in colourful pretty pictures? It doesn't have to be that way!

Last month I dressed up as the Death tarot card and went for a stroll around the back streets of Newtown. Death was one the Cards of the Month in October, but the main reason for dressing up was because I had aquired all these amazing clothing items and just wanted to get outside in them (with a scythe). I highly recommend dressing up and embodying the different tarot archetypes, and Newtown is a great place to do it, as most people will either ignore you or smile appreciatively at you!

[Not much will surprise the people of Newtown. A few years ago when two water buffalos escaped from a film set and charged up King St Newtown, disrupting traffic and causing chaos, most people's reaction was one of "Is that two buffalos? Hmmm. Oh well, that's Newtown for you." The only reason the buffalos were stopped and caught is because the Newtown Fire Brigade randomly happened upon them when returning from a job.]

I now have a small stock of my Queen of Cups Chai tea in my office, ready for Xmas and Solstice shopping, so if you fancy making and drinking (or gifting) my delicious chai at your home, you can buy a packet when you come for a reading. Only $20, so cheap! You can also buy them (and drink the chai in-house) at Petty Cash Cafe in Marrickville ~ the best cafe in the universe (IMHO)!

Tarot Card(s) of the Month ~ Ten of Swords & Two of Pentacles

For those who are reading this newsletter for the first time, every month I talk about the tarot card that appears the most in the month's tarot readings. Even though the cards will always have individual significance, a commonly occurring card can also have a say about what's going on for the whole community.

Like last month, once again two tarot cards have been appearing in what seems like equal amounts. I don't take a tally, but the amount of times the Ten of Swords and Two of Pentacles has been turning up has been huge.

Let's start with the good ol' Ten of Swords, shall we? Not a pleasant card to look at necessarily, but to freak out and discard it in the hope that it will go away ignores the very powerful message it has to bring us. Often depicted as a person lying on the ground with ten swords in their back (I have here selected my least 'scary' looking Ten of Swords cards for your viewing pleasure), we may scratch our heads and wonder what is the powerful message?

When I consider this Ten, I see it as a stark reminder of the kind of crap that goes down when we stop trusting our intuition. Sometimes we can get away with going about our day with our mind in fantasyland, but sometimes we really can't. So when I see the Ten of Swords I am grateful for the reminder to be mindful. Shit can happen at any moment, but we so often forget our own mortality. Having a Ten of Swords sensation means you have the opportunity to pause, consider, listen to your intuition, and move forward with a careful, watchful mindset.

The Two of Pentacles is a helpful ongoing refuelling station that gives us the stamina to just keep on going, even when we are feeling overwhelmed by all the sudden change. It reminds us to stay in balance when life is not, so that we are able to experience our own strength and fortitude in inspired ways, as well as helping others find it within themselves.

So while these two archetypes seem to turn up to help us survive, it is important to consider that they can help us stay grounded so that we can remain open to amazing opportunities for growth and joy - it's not just about avoiding/managing the crap.

As usual, let us now listen to the various voices of Ten of Swords and the Two of Pentacles, accompanied by images from my personal tarot deck collections.

Ten of Swords from Stella's Tarot by Stella Kaoruko & Takako Hoei says, "Sometimes things must fall, but that doesn't have to mean you have to get cut." Two of Disks adds, "See what starts to form as you regain your stance, there is much to explore here."

Ten of Swords from Pagan Otherworlds Tarot by Uusi says, "I want you to rest with eternity for a minute or two. That which once seemed so sharp has started to flower." Two of Pentacles adds, "Lift yourself above the waters, and see what beauty you can create there."

Ten of Swords from Tarot of the Crone by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince says, "Be pierced by what you neglected to acknowledge. Be humble as you receive your lessons." Two of Disks adds, "Reach out across the divide and trust that the support you most need will be there. This is a relief, and it is powerful to admit how grateful you are."

Ten of Swords from Tarot de St. Croix by Lisa de St. Croix says, "Hold yourself carefully and feel for the subtle movements of the void opening and closing around you." Two of Pentacles adds, "Seek stories that remind you of your mystery. Let those stories move through you to keep you in touch with your sacredness."

'Til next month, many blessings,
Sarah Barry (Psychic Sarah)
