Tarot tales from Newtown, Sydney, with a brief mention perhaps, of chai and other fascinating things.
Does this email look odd and lacking in colourful pretty pictures? It doesn't have to be that way!

Welcome to my first newsletter for 2017, and if you are in Sydney, I hope you are coping with the heat! I do love it when the cooling southerly arrives in the evening, and am rather disappointed when the winds fail to appear. The dress I wearing in this photo is perfect for these days of humidity, and the material is so light that my whirring fan makes it billow quite dramatically as I do tarot readings!

RecentIy I published a post on my blog about two Creatively Collaborative Tarot Readings I did last year: the first where I did a group reading for performance collective 110% in their installation at Firstdraft, with an audience listening (photos of me sitting in front of a tent-like structure on the blog); and the second, when I did a group tarot reading for the organisers and promoters of a death metal club night called Deaf To All But Metal! I thoroughly enjoyed both these experiences and am in the mood for more. Please read the blog post, and let me know if you or anyone you know are part of a collaborative group who might benefit from having a group reading.

For the Death to All But Metal reading, the interview and readings were recorded for their podcast. Here is the direct link: I come in at 14.18 minutes and am there for about 40 minutes until 54.45 minutes. This recording is full of laughs, some "well that's accurate" moments, with some references to black cats thrown in.

Finally, thank you to everyone for keeping me very busy this month with in-person, Skype/phone and email readings! The new year has well and truly begun!

Read on for the Tarot Card(s) of the Month ~ The High Priestess & The Emperor
Tarot Card(s) of the Month ~ The High Priestess & The Emperor
For those who are reading this newsletter for the first time, every month I talk about the tarot card that appears the most in the month's tarot readings. Even though the cards will always have individual significance, a commonly occurring card can also have a say about what's going on for the whole community.

Once again there are two archetypes that propelled themselves forward this month and what powerful presences they are! The High Priestess comes in to endlessly point out to us the hidden things, the invisible things, the things that can't quite be spoken in a clear and logical way, but can be inferred through gestures and riddles and how we feel inside.

The Emperor asks us to button up and take on board the responsibilities from which we have been shying away. This kind of Emperor isn't about 'power-over', but rather, 'power-with', so that we can align ourselves with our fellow humans without acting upon any conscious or unconscious need to 'take control' of a situation.

The High Priestess will tell us to shhh and listen attentively, and the Emperor will ask us to look forward and see how the needs of the future can be reflected in our actions of the present.

As always, let us now listen to the various voices of the High Priestess and the Emperor, accompanied by images from my personal tarot deck collection.

The Priestess (High Priestess) from Tarot of the Crone (I find this deck quiver-worthy and splendiferous all at once) by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince says, "Seek answers for not just yourself, but your whole community, when given the chance. Debunk the diluted histories and search for wise company, if you to wish to make an impact that can sustain rather than destroy."

The Emperor from Tarot of the Cat People (a deck of fabulous fashion and joyous cats) by Karen Kuykendall says, "Stand firm in your resolve and don't let folks cross your boundaries, for any reason. Maintain your integrity ardently, as your protection against misinformation and lies."

The Oracle (High Priestess) from the Slow Holler Tarot Deck (this deck feels quite sacred to me. It was recently released and I'm enjoying getting to know it) says, "See if you can breathe a new world into existence, one that embraces all beings. Then take at least one actual, practical step to start contributing to those changes. The magic is potent as long as there is solid action to follow, no matter how insignificant it might seem."

The Navigator (Emperor) from the Slow Holler Tarot Deck finishes, "Find the path, and let common sense be your guide. Where we are going, no one has been before, so there will need to be an element of hope and trust as we sail forward with the solid, practical, and logical understanding of how we can all best grow."

'Til next month,
Sarah Barry (Psychic Sarah)

P.S Want more tarot stories? I post a Tarot Reading for the Collective on my website every month. This month I used the Slow Holler Tarot Deck - a deck created by a collective of artists with Southern (USA) ties, queer identities or both. Read on to see what 5 archetypes can serve us best in 2017.

[I generally post the Tarot Reading for the Collective in the first week (or so) of every month.]

Since December 2013 I have been making and selling my very own delicious blend of chai - Psychic Sarah's Queen of Cups Chai. I personally select and blend the spices, and package every single packet of chai.

One 220g packet costs AUD$20 (so cheap!), and will make you at least 50 large (I mean huge) cups of delicious authentic chai. Read a review about it here. I know I am biased, but it's my favourite chai! But that's to be expected of course, as I made it to suit my tastebuds. Friends and family often specifically mention that I am to make them chai when they come for a visit.

If you are local to Sydney (and in particular the Inner West) you can drink my chai in-house and/or purchase a packet to take home with you at Petty Cash Café (a truly glorious café on so many levels), Marrickville. Or, you can order it online. You can buy a packet off me directly when you come for a tarot reading, but be sure to let me know at time of booking so that I definitely have chai for you!
