The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is enforcing new rules regarding honey bees and prescriptions. Effective January 1, 2017, antibiotics must be prescribed by veterinarians, and most veterinarians do not know about bees. Michael Karle, D.V.M. from the MId Valley Veterinary Hospital will be addressing the issue.
The FDA has also published new labeling laws requiring a a daily value (DV) for “added sugar” in honey. American Beekeeping Federation, the Center, and a number of other bee groups have urged against that ruling. Margaret Lombard, CEO of the National Honey Board will be touching base on the issue with her talk about "Growing Opportunities for the Small-Scale Honey Producer."
