I am happy to announce that Voicehandler's second album comes out later this month with a release show on Wed 11/14. Danishta and I will also be performing tonight in a first-time quartet with Kanoko Nishi-Smith and Matt Chandler, and reuniting our quartet with Scott Rubin (briefly back in town) and Tamara Chu. And finally, my new trio with Matt Chandler and Doug Katelus has assumed the name Street Priest and will be playing out first show toward the end of the month.
light from another light is a collection of improvised pieces representative of Voicehandler's live sets from the past couple years. The instrumentation differs from their previous album with Rivero making extensive use of modular electronics, and Heule expanding to a full drum kit.
The performance is loose and exploratory, at various times energetic and meditative. Rivero’s voice embraces noise, with the lines blurred between electronic processing and extended vocal techniques. Heule’s drumming maintains its typical ear for timbre within the context of driving percussive intensity.
