WHAT: Community rallying against plans by the New York Blood Center to build a massive 334-foot tower that will ruin an Upper East Side park and school. The proposal plans call for tearing down the Blood Center’s three-story headquarters at 310 East 67th Street between First and Second Avenues and building a commercial tower, requiring a change in the local zoning or “upzoning” allowing for denser and taller mid-block construction where the height limit is 75 feet. The proposed tower will have floor plates the size of the Empire State Building.
