Last spring, I embedded at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Writers' Institute to pen a cover story for Isthmus about how aspiring authors get published. Strongly motivated, I began writing my first novel and attended this year's Writers' Institute from April 12-15 to polish my fiction. Next step: Finish that book! — Michael Popke

Douglas Adams + A Perfect Circle = Catchy Song x Bizarre Video 

Every month, we bring you a writing-related music video.

To accompany a song from the U.S. rock band's first album in 14 years, A Perfect Circle recently released an odd video of endlessly upward-swimming dolphins. The upbeat song is titled "So Long, and Thanks for the All the Fish" — a nod to the fourth novel in Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy comedy science fiction series — and it's filled with "time-traveling sounds of mid-2000s alt-rock" and references to everybody from Willy Wonka and Marilyn Monroe to Major Tom and Princess Leia. Check it out, and prepare for a nostalgic trip.
