Friday 5 February 2021
2021 is here and we have had a lovely start to the year. It is good to be back together!
We welcome the following new students to our school:
Matai = Harper, Hunter, Sophie, Tyler and Katie
Rawe = Neeko
Kawaka = Tay
Akotoa = Meika
Staff attended a professional development day at the Murihiku Marae on Tuesday this week. The focus was on New Zealand's history. As part of the day we travelled by bus around a number of sites in Bluff and Invercargill as we developed our understanding of how Maori lived before the area was colonised.

This day was part of our journey of growing our knowledge of Te Reo (language) and Tikanga (culture) Maori. It also is a strategic move as we prepare for the Curriculum updates the Government are rolling out where NZ History will be taught more coherently and frequently in schools from 2022 (CLICK HERE to read more about the Government's recent announcement).
Our school-wide topic for Term 1 is "Turangawaewae - Our Place".

This focus will see students growing in knowledge and appreciation of what makes our place special. We will be integrating areas from across the Curriculum during this time. Keep an eye on classroom notices for more information.
Reminder: To start the year off we are holding a community picnic on Friday 12 February here at school. It will be followed up with our 'Meet the Teacher' evening. The night will go as follows:

5-6pm - Community Picnic on the school grounds (bring your own picnic blanket, chairs and food). We will have bouncy castles, lawn games for families to engage in and the coffee cart will be available.

6-7pm - Gather in the Activity Centre for the 'Meet the Teacher' session (meetings in classes will follow after this). Students will be supervised in the playgrounds by staff from 6-7pm.
Have you registered your child for Term 1 Sports?

Registrations close on Tuesday 9 February at 8pm.

Our annual school Working Bee is set for Saturday 13 February. Please mark this in your calendar now and come join our school community for a couple of hours between 9-12pm. Many hands make light work and a lot of fun!

We need help with:
  • painting (bring big and small paintbrushes, sheets, etc)
  • drains cleaned along footpaths
  • line trimmers/weed eaters to clean up edges of our grass, fencelines and carpark
  • weeding gardens and trimming trees/bushes (bring wheelbarrows)
Thank you in advance for your help. The Coffee Car with be there with a free hot drink for each helper.
We have been notified that the property upgrades occurring in the Admin block and Rawe will start in July. For these to occur we will need to:
  • shift the admin staff into the library
  • move Rawe into the Activity Centre
This has also meant that we have had to shift our Production date to Friday 12 November (Term 4, Week 4). Please adjust this on your calendars.
Exciting news! The Chatbus South Trust has secured funding and employed a counsellor so that the Chatbus service can operate here at Myross Bush School every Tuesday from 16 February!

More information will come shortly about this service and how it can help our students.

We are in search of people who would be able to help with covering new books throughout the year. If this is something you would like to assist with, please email cassie@myrossbush.school.nz
A reminder that we ask parents to drop off and collect their children between 8.15am and 3.15pm. Unless they are bus children, children on the school grounds outside this timeframe are the responsibility of parents. Children are not to be left unattended outside this timeframe.

If the pickup timeframe is a challenge, we encourage you to enrol in an after school programme like what XO Church provide. The programme is in town but a minivan operates picking students up from our school.
Scooter Track timetable:
Monday = Matai
Tuesday = Rawe
Wednesday = Kawaka
Thursday = Akotoa
Friday = flexible day (for those who were away earlier in the week on their day or who missed out because of the weather)

Pita Pit have advised us that they are not in a position to provide lunch deliveries to schools for 2021.
