The 12 new scooters and helmets that our Friends of School purchased have arrived! They have been in hot demand this week. Thanks again FOS for making a difference for our kids!
We are proud of the excellent work our staff do and the student progress achieved as a result. To support this classroom learning, we have a variety of Learning Support programmes overseen by Cassie Watt our Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
The following 'Learning Support Progress Report' gives details to the work achieved this year and was presented at Monday's Board of Trustees meeting by Cassie. The results we have seen in Quick60, Reading Recovery, Rainbow Reading, MovingCog and the Writing and Math target groups are something to celebrate!

Congratulations to Hannah Smith (ex Mryoss Bush School student) who was awarded the joint Dux at Southland Girls High School Prizegiving this week!
Chatbus South (a mobile counselling service working with schools) is being launched in 2021! This service will be working with our students 1 day a week across the year.
Please help us as we look to appoint a trained counsellor for this position by sharing the following Facebook advert.
Yesterday we set up our annual 'Meet the 2021 Teacher' session where all students got to find out who their 2021 teachers are, the friends in their homerooms and have a chance to establish a positive connection ready for 2021. All students left with a letter from their teacher you may want to read.
End of year Christmas activities bring excitement to the classroom but we have also seen many tired eyes over recent weeks and are working hard to help our children work through the 'molehills' so they don't become 'mountains'. Please help us with this by making sure children have healthy bedtimes over the coming days.
The final amount has come in and we can confirm that $9,697.68 was raised in total (includes online and cash donations). With the following fees removed (5% for admin and 30% for prizes) fundraising for teacher aide hours in 2021 = $6,303.49

For those awaiting the Fun Run prizes, these will be handed out to students on Monday afternoon.

Thank you for your support with the Fun Run this year - it was a great community day! We have learnt a number of things during this fundraising process. One of the things we can take forward is the use of social media to raise funds so that our immediate community is not continually hit up for fundraising but instead our wider family/friends can contribute from afar.
Attention Bus Families
If your child is ON the afternoon bus on the last day of school (Tuesday 15 Dec), can you please inform the school no later than Monday at 12pm so arrangements can be made to take them home at 2pm. Plans are being made for one loop only with all children on the bus together. Thank you.
Back to school stationery – order now!
We have teamed up with OfficeMax to make getting school ready faster! Your child’s class list is available now on the OfficeMax MySchool website

We encourage you to order early to ensure your child has all their stationery requirements ready to go for the start of Term 1. Don’t wait until mid-January when the ‘team of 5 million’ get home from holiday - order now and avoid the back to school rush.
This year OfficeMax have introduced Laybuy*, so you can pay in 6 weekly, interest-free instalments - and still get your order right away. Or you can pay by internet banking, credit card or debit card.
When you shop on you’ll receive free delivery on orders over $46*. You will also help our school earn school rewards* that we use to purchase extra resources for our school.
* Terms & Conditions apply, see for details.
Please note: You are welcome to print lists off from the website and shop elsewhere in town if you wish.
Board of Trustees
This week the Board met and the following were some of the topics discussed:
  • Cassie Watt presented the 'Learning Support Progress Report' - this was well received and Cassie was thanked for the important work she does in the school.
  • The 2021 draft Budget and draft strategic goals were presented and discussed
  • Out of Zone enrolments - spaces have been opened for five Year 2 students for Term 1 + 2 (please share this with friends if you know someone). Closes 28 January.
  • Building upgrades inside Rawe and the front administration and kitchen area are set to start in July 2021.
  • Student Wellbeing has been a focus for the Board this year. It has been tracked over the last three years since we identified increasing levels of anxiety in students in 2018. Work undertaken included implementing the 'Second Steps' (social and emotional skills) programme schoolwide, supporting senior students through the 'Made to Move' programme, developing a 'Best Practice: Wellbeing' document with staff, support through the Resource Teacher of Learning and Behaviour (RTLB) and fundraising for Chatbus service (which will begin in 2021). Despite these efforts, data collected at the start of Term 4 indicated that anxiety levels have increased. There is more work for us to do in this area going forward and will need a combined effort with parents.
