Opportunities for Finnish food and beverage business in Hong Kong

With a wealthy population of 7 million and a GDP of USD 235 billion, Hong Kong is a large, high-value and expanding market for Finnish pure high-end food and beverage products. Hong Kong’s very limited natural resources ensure very high reliance on imports (95%), with most food and raw materials coming mainly from China, Thailand, the US, Japan and Australia. Why not from Finland? “Building trust and confidence in the food system”, one of Finnish food industries’ strengths, was the leading theme at Hong Kong Food Industry Forum last year.

Finnish alcoholic beverage companies already participated the Hong Kong Vinexpo in June coordinated by Food from Finland and Finland-Hong Kong Trade Association’s Johanna Heikkinen. Especially Hong Kong’s wine imports has grown extensively by 24,2 % in the first seven months of this year. China mainlanders’ wine imports from Hong Kong jumped 50.5 % during the same period. Another very promising sector is the HoReCa industry. Hong Kong has thousands of restaurants and in 2015 53 million tourists in addition to very food oriented Hong Kong inhabitants.
Food from Finland welcomes the Finland Hong Kong Association’s members to join at the official Nordic-pavilion together with Sweden and Denmark at HOFEX fair 8.-11.5.2017 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

HOFEX2017 – the food and hospitality tradeshow is providing a platform for 2,400 international exhibitors to connect with 40,000 regional buyers. HOFEX 2017 continues to blend the best of Food and Beverages, Equipment, Supplies, Services and Hospitality Technologies.

Hong Kong is a well-established trade port, and this is your opportunity to target the significant Hong Kong Tourism industry. Hong Kong is very much an English speaking city, and is also the gateway into trade with China. Exhibiting allows you to meet with potential buyers, build trade relationships and gain market feedback for your products.
As a food import dependent market, significant trade opportunities exist for: Seafood, Edible Oils, Meat, Healthy and functional snacks, Dairy, Wine, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable, Healthy beverages.

Food from Finland has booked together with Sweden and Denmark 240m2, and this space will be split equally between Finland, Sweden and Denmark. Each country will still have their own identity; however, we will promote the pavilion as the Nordic Pavilion.
