Alumni Wick: November  2019
Principal’s Note, Day of Giving Results, Named Scholarship Mass & Brunch, Volleyball State Championship, GCL Fall Sports Awards, Grandparent Thanksgiving Mass & More!
Dear Alumni & Parents of Alumni,
As we ready ourselves for the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to all of our students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni who give generously to support our school.  Too often we overlook the daily contributions our Fenwick Family provides in order for our school to thrive and achieve success for our current students, as well as those who will attend Fenwick in the future!  Whether it is the gift of your time, talent or treasure, I am grateful for the support our school community receives from so many generous people that help us attain our mission as a Catholic school.

Many thanks for all your efforts, support and contributions on behalf of our school!

May you have an enjoyable, festive and blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends.

Yours in Service,

Blane M. Collison
The results are in and it is another amazing and inspiring effort by this incredible Fenwick Family.  A special thanks to you all for your generosity and support of our students and the Bishop Fenwick community.

Our 2019 Day of Giving produced some staggering results by exceeding the $100,000 match challenge and kicking off our Crimson and Gold Campaign with a total of $184,971.69!  This total reflects gifts ranging from $7.00 to $10,000.00.  EACH gift makes a difference and the impact of these combined gifts will be used to support initiatives and programs focused on our students and their experience at Fenwick.  We had 81 NEW donors since last year’s 2018 Day of Giving Appeal.

Gift Designations as a % of the Gift Total
Falcon Excellence (Unrestricted Gifts)              45.30%
Guardian Angel (Tuition Assistance)                 11.91%
Athletics (Gold Fund)                                       *15.04%
Scholarship                                                       19.02%
Counseling                                                          1.00%
Performing Arts                                                   4.03%
Campus Ministry                                                 4.17%
Includes 2 Major gifts to underwrite the cost of field turf
These are amazing achievements, and for the 2nd year in a row Fenwick has had one of the best Day of Giving efforts in the entire Archdiocese of Cincinnati!

Can We Do It Again?... Your answer was a resounding loud and proud, “YES WE CAN!”
Thank you, God Bless, and Go Falcons!

Another State Champion is in the House!

Congratulations to the girls volleyball team as they defeated Highland in 4 sets on November 9th to win the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! This is Fenwick's 5th time going to state and 2nd time winning the state title in the past 10 years as the 2010 team took home the trophy as well!

Fun Fact: Fenwick VB Coach Cayla Quallen '11 was a part of that team in 2010 who won!

The girls fought hard all season with a tough schedule and ended up with a season record of 28-1 and a bucket of awards:

Coach Conley was named Div. II State Coach of the Year.

GCLC Player of the year: Grace Maziar

GCLC 1st Team: Grace Maziar, Julia Gardon, and Elizabeth Hoerlein

GCLC 2nd Team: Bella DeSalvo

GCLC Honorable Mention: Kate Hafer

Congratulations, again to the coaches and student athletes of the girls volleyball team!

Homecoming Alumni Tailgate
This year The Homecoming Alumni Tailgate celebrated the 45th anniversary of the 1973 and 1974 Football State Championships with a ring ceremony for their state rings. Last spring the school commissioned ring designs for football and baseball state championship rings for the 3 state title teams. This was the first time former players ever had the opportunity to buy a state championship ring or charm. Congratuations to those incredible athletes, coaches and cheerleaders some of whom returned to campus for this event. Recent graduates returned to campus to collect their yearbooks and catch up. Next year we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2010 first girls volleyball state championship! Go Falcons!
2019 Named Scholarship Brunch
All Saints Day was fitting for the annual Named Scholarship Mass & Brunch that recognizes benefactors for their financial investments into Fenwick scholarships. At brunch, benefactors are seated with scholarship recipients allowing them to meet and share information about themselves and bring significant meaning and relevance for both donors and students.

This year, seniors Andrew Hudak and Abby Gustely were guest speakers sharing their personal experience and gratitude for their Fenwick education. Tim Tindall '85 returned to Fenwick to meet Maggie Kurtz the first recipient of the scholarship he established in honor of his parents. (top photo)
Fenwick's Drama Club performed the comedy Puff's, a parody of Harry Potter's Hogwarts during the weekend November 15-17. Next up, the spring musical, Bye Bye Birdie scheduled for March 6 & 7 at the Sorg! For the first time ever, the Fenwick Dance Team will be joining the Drama Club for a very special production.
Fr. James Manning celebrated mass for a packed house of grandparents and students for the 45th Annual Grandparent Thanksgiving Mass & Dessert and ask those attending to recognize the love of Christ and the effort and love put into the Thanksgiving meal prepared by our family. Principal Collison reminded us to have an "attitude of gratitude" for our many blessings. In the early years of this event, an entire Thanksgiving meal prepared by school cafeteria, faculty and staff employees was served to students and grandparents staff!
For the third year,  Student Council is sponsoring the Bishop Fenwick Annual Christmas Present Drive! This year, over 500 students at Mayfield Elementary in Middletown will be receiving gifts from our students.  Key Club and Student Council will also  wrap all the donated gifts for delivery on December 17th to Mayfield Elememenary where they will host a Christmas party for the entire school! Students will lead Christmas carol singing, cookies and juice, reading Christmas stories and passing out of the gifts. It is a memorable and heart-felt experience to bring our students together with these young children.
