OTN loves European Data Forum

Inspired by the success of last year’s participation, OTN decided to attend EDF for the second time, on 29-30 June 2016. Lieven Raes (CORVE) and Ari Apteker (the city of Antwerp) manned a stand where they talked to passers-by about the project, its tools and data. Watch OTN team in action.
OTN Dublin meeting a success

On 22 June 2016 OTN hosted a four-hour ad-hoc meeting on metadata standards as part of an ongoing cooperation with Open Geospatial Consortium. Lieven Raes (CORVE), Pieter Colpaert (iMinds) and Stepan Kafka (HSRS) each delivered a presentation on the way OTN integrates geospatial and non-geospatial metadata. In the coming months the group will focus its attention on the evolving nature of existing metadata standards like (geo)dcat with the aim of making (meta)data more discoverable regardless of its type e.g. classic dataset, (geo) web service or an API.
OTN at AgriFuture Days

On 22-24 June 2016 OTN partner Karel Charvat of HSRS was in Austria for AgriFuture Days 2016 conference where he gave a presentation, participated in parallel sessions and ran a workshop with data and farmers.
Transdev learns about OTN in Issy

On 21 June 2016 Matteo Satta from Issy Media presented OTN alongside other projects to Transdev, a French-based international private public transport operator. In its presentation Matteo focused on OTN crowdsourcing application ‘This Way,’ which attracted a lot of interest from the audience. 
OTN hacks the traffic in Issy

On Tuesday 14 June OTN participated in ‪#HackTheTraffic conference organised by its partner Issy Media. The event kicked off with a round of presentations on (Big) Data and its application in traffic management. Among the presenters was Aneta Rapacz who introduced the project in front of a packed audience and explained OTN’s main tools and apps. OTN also had a stand that was manned throughout the event. Lots of participants stopped by to look at the video, take a brochure, ask questions about maps and visualisations and initiate dialogue on future cooperation. ‬

OTN shortlisted for the O2 NextGen Digital Challenge Awards 2016

OTN has been shortlisted as a finalist in the O2 NextGen Digital Challenge Awards 2016, Open Data category. The awards celebrate innovation, success and leadership in the UK’s digitally transformed economy. The awards are the UK’s prime showcase - the Oscars - for the best in next generation digital innovation. They are not for profit and are judged by a distinguished panel of independent judges. This year's awards will take place on 13 October at the House of Lords Terrace and Cholmondeley Room - hosted by the Earl of Erroll. OTN's point of contact for this award is Shabana Everton from the Birmingham City Council.
New maps on OTN Hub

Following the result of EU referendum Dmitri Kožuch of HSRS produced a map based on UK Electoral Committee data. View Brexit map. And earlier that month Dmitri created a European map with country flags as markers. Country codes were taken from the online table and a special script helped to fetch all relevant information about the countries from OpenStreetMap and Wiki. View flag map.
ECIM Brussels App Challenge winners announced

After coming to a close on 31 May 2016, Brussels App Challenge entered its final stage – evaluation – during which the organisers (iMinds and ENoLL) invited external experts to evaluate the submitted proposals. Five proposals that were submitted before the deadline were scrupulously assessed by a panel of judges from smart city and innovation circles. After some deliberation the judges awarded 1st prize to GreenCompanion, 2nd prize to PARK’N GPS+, 3rd prize to Door2Door. The whole ECIM team sends its hearty congratulations to all participants and finalists. Well done! As regards prizes, the first place is awarded 4000 EUR, second 2000 EUR and third 1000 EUR – all in cash.
ECIM at Parkex

On 15-16 June 2016 Steve Cross from CEN was in Coventry, UK, to attend Parkex, Europe’s flagship parking event organised by the British Parking Association. At the conference Steve talked to experts working in the industry and introduced to them ECIM parking web service available on the marketplace
ECIM final presentation delivered in the The Hague

On 15 June 2016 Hugo Kerschot of IS-Practice attended Trust in the Digital World conference that was held in The Hague and covered topics related to cloud solutions, connected cars, cybersecurity, Internet of Things, blockchain technology and privacy, among others. TDW2016 was the last event within project lifecycle at which ECIM was presented to a large international audience. But it is by no means a full stop in ECIM’s existence as a smart mobility solution. We will be posting announcements about the forthcoming events and post-project developments on our website and social media so make sure you continue to follow ECIM in the coming months to see how it develops after the final review.

ECIM sustainability receives a boost after Brussels meeting

The second commercialisation workshop was held on 3 June 2016 to streamline partners views regarding the most suitable business model for ECIM, as well as to find consensus on how to make first steps toward commercialisation. One of such first steps is Letter of Intent that partners agreed to sign before the end of the project. Read more.

ECIM in the sunny Istanbul

On 1-3 June 2016 Esteve Almirall from ESADE had a plenary session at the Smart City Expo in Istanbul where ECIM was given as an example of project initiatives the university is involved in.
