Velethon Wales The Velothon Wales returns to south Wales on Sunday 8 July 2018 and will welcome thousands of recreational riders and charity fundraisers, who will be completing 60km, 125km and 140km routes on completely closed roads through south Wales.
The race will start in Cardiff before travelling through Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Caerphilly, and finish back in Cardiff city centre.
After tackling the Tumble, the riders will enter Torfaen in Blaenavon before travelling through Pontypool and onwards via the A472 to Caerphilly. An interactive map of the route can be viewed on the Velothon Wales website. Blaenavon World Heritage Environmental Group Bat & Nocturnal Bird Evening. Sat 14th July 2018 starting at 9:15pm. Look and listen for the mysterious Nightjars emerging from the woods to hunt over the moor, as well as owls and other birds. Suitable for all, the event will involve a little walking on the road. “Canada Tip Bioblitz” Sat 28th July 10:00am. The Canada Tips are the result of indiscriminate opencast coal mining. Areas of bare shale spoil are gradually being reclaimed by wildlife but little has been recorded about what is actually there. Join us and share in finding the unexpected! "Garn y Gorfydd" guided walk. 28th July 2018 at 2:00pm. A short circular walk of about 4 km (2½ miles), starting from the Foxhunter Car Park, we will be skirting Mynydd y Garn Fawr and descending to visit the woodlands of Nant Llanelen.
