Join us for a discussion of legal issues and trends faced by nonprofits in Montana. For the first hour, we’ll be talking with the Commissioner of Political Practices, the Department of Justice and the Executive Director of Upper Seven Law, a nonprofit law firm. Together they will address recent changes in the legal landscape and  trends in nonprofit legislation. Next, we'll dive into the the role attorneys can and cannot play as  board members and ways they can be most beneficial. Finally, a panel of Montana attorneys will address the top ten nonprofit legal questions posed by organizations in our state and ways nonprofits can find answers!

What Changed for Nonprofits in the 2021 State Legislature? 
Join Jeff Mangan, Commissioner of Political Practices;  Mark Mattioli, Consumer Protection Section Chief, Montana Department of Justice; and Rylee Sommers-Flanagan, Founder and Executive Director, Upper Seven Law to explore changes to nonprofit law, operating environment, and statewide trends in the nonprofit legal landscape.

Nonprofit board service for attorneys  is  a highly sought-after partnership, seen as mutually beneficial and rewarding for both the organization and the attorney. Yet, attorneys have additional responsibilities and quandaries as board members that can complicate the relationship. This session covers the ethics, responsibilities, and legal liability for attorneys serving as board members of nonprofit organizations. Current attorneys, board leaders, and those interested in board service are encouraged to attend. Approved for ethics CLE.

Join Montana State Bar Association CEO John Mudd  and  Panelists Christian Dietrich, Joel Kaleva, and Larry Johnson in this interactive session that will cover hot topics in nonprofit law, highest needs for attorneys and organizations, and considerations of the benefits of building nonprofit legal capacity in the state of Montana.
