Rescheduled National Mentoring Month Events

Volunteer Iowa/Iowa Mentoring Partnership Day at the Capitol will be held on March 15th at 11:45 am.  The event will provide an opportunity for representatives from IMP certified programs to serve as mentoring advocates by educating their legislators on the essential of youth mentoring programs in strengthening families, communities, and the state of Iowa. All attendees should register for this event, including those who registered for the previously scheduled Day at the Capitol on February 3rd. Click here to register. Also, don't forget to check out the Volunteer Iowa/Iowa Mentoring Partnership Day at the Capitol Facebook event page for more information.

The 2016 EXCELLENCE IN MENTORING AWARDS CEREMONY will be held on April 13th at 10.00 am with the Governor Hall of Fame Awards. You are encouraged to attend the ceremony to honor exemplary mentors from across the state. Your attendance shows the strength of support for mentoring programs. The governor and lieutenant governor have been invited to award this highest honor for mentors in Iowa. Registration for this event is not required. Go to the Excellence in Mentoring Awards Facebook event page

WORKING WITH CHALLENGING MATCHES

The March 10 Peer Share call topic is Working With Challenging Matches.  Experienced program staff members from Iowa mentoring programs will serve on a panel for this call and will share how they would handle difficult match coaching/support scenarios to get the match back on track.  We are looking for scenarios to pose to the panel on the call. You are encouraged to send any difficult match scenarios that your agency is feeling challenged by to Katie Orlando at Katie.orlando@iowabigs.org for inclusion on the call.  Register for the call here and forward to all staff members.

NORTHWEST REGIONAL REPORT

The IMP Northwest Regional Group met in February. The group discussed various topics of interest such as collecting data, fundraising and challenges with recruiting male mentors. The group shared fundraising activities that their program has found successful.

The group also discussed promoting mentoring as a regional group and will hope to do that this spring for Volunteer Month in April. We also heard from AmeriCorps Vista Anna Zumbahlen about the AmeriCorps Vista program and her STEM activities in Sac County Mentoring.

The group also received IMP updates of upcoming activities, etc. The group will gather again at the Volunteer Iowa regional professional development on April 14 in Sioux City.

To connect with this group, contact IMP provider board member Jayne Wilhelm, Sac County Mentoring at
