EXCELLENCE IN MENTORING AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Nominate an outstanding mentor for the Excellence in Mentoring Awards. The award honors mentors who have been mentoring for at least two years and go above and beyond in their role.  Mentors and their mentees will be recognized in a ceremony on April 26 at the Volunteer Iowa awards ceremony.  Nomination forms are available here and are due January 16, 2017.

HOST A VISTA
Does your program need to reassess its recruitment or fundraising plan, but you don't have the time and people to get it done? Do you need a comprehensive communications strategy, but lack the time to create it? Or, do you need an extra trainer or program coordinator? Consider hosting an AmeriCorps member this year to strengthen and empower your organization. Learn more here.

MARVELOUS GRANDMA

“You have to be a lot of things to be grandma,” Grandma Marvel says. She lists attributes like “flexible, have a sense of humor, nurturing, ability to praise, good listening. Need to encourage and praise them.” She emphasizes the last two, listing them more than once. Telling children what they are doing right and where they are excelling is just as, if not more, important than telling them where they can improve.
“It’s fun,” Grandma Marvel says kindly. “You never get enough of them.”
