An AmeriCorps funding opportunity will be posted this week in IowaGrants for mentoring programs and substance abuse prevention programs in Iowa.  Applicants can request up to 2 full-time members and $30,000 to provide capacity-building to meet the mission of your program. This could include many service activities including but not limited to: assisting with sustainability planning, recruiting mentors and volunteers, or developing and presenting new outreach materials or curricula. When Emma met her mentee, Lanee, the 8-year-old didn't interact much with the other students in Club M mentoring in Burlington. HIgh school freshman Emma was determined to get Lanee out of her comfort zone to make new friends. By the end of the school year, both had learned new things and the mentoring match spoke at events in other schools to expand the mentoring program. Read more about this match here.
