BRING OUT THE BEST

Mentoring has provided Brandon with a role model and friend, and Enrique has had the opportunity to see the positive impact he’s had on Brandon’s life.

“Brandon's world is very challenging. It's hard to be a ‘good kid’ when so much in his life is negative and difficult and full of struggle. Brandon is learning that ‘fighting’ is not just about punching or kicking - but standing firm for what you believe in and want. I think I am probably one of the healthiest males he knows,” says Enrique.  Read more here.

Monthly Advocacy Tip: Invite your legislator to attend your end-of-year event and see the impact of mentoring in their communities before the legislature begins in January. Introduce them to a few mentors and mentees so they can hear firsthand how mentoring positively changes your community.

Monthly Marketing Tip: This month's IRL theme is Celebrating Differences and Achievements.  Give a shout out over social media to accomplishments of your program staff, mentors, or mentees!

FUNDING

Don't forget about Community Foundations for financial support. Find your local community foundation here.

RESEARCH

Believing People Can Change Sparks Cooperation with Others

“When you think people have fixed traits your job is to just figure them out and go from there,” Dweck says. “If you think people can develop and change, you don’t tend to make blanket judgments.”

You can help your mentee have more authentic relationships by encouraging them to see people and groups not as fixed, but as capable of change.

Thanks to several of your mentors and mentees and with the help of the videography class at DMACC, the IMP mentor recruitment videos will be live in time for National Mentoring Month! Be on the lookout to receive these videos to use for your social media outlets, newsletters, websites, recruitment events, and more.

Here are a couple sneak peek photos of the project in the works.
