Recruiting VIrtual Volunteers webinar recording: Expand your use of virtual volunteers to meet organizational needs beyond serving as mentors. People are stuck at home and looking for ways to engage.
Please fill out this survey to provide MENTOR real-time insight during the Covid-19 pandemic regarding finances, support for staff, and reaching families in your community. We are working collaboratively with partners to advocate, deliver solutions, share strategies, and lift up resources that are supportive of your needs in the short and long term.
Although our April awards ceremony at the Capitol was postponed, we want to congratulate our 2020 EMA winners and thank them for their continued service for the youth of Iowa.

Chris Barnard joined Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Mississippi Valley in Davenport as a young professional in his twenties. For over 30 years, he has been a mentor, donor, and advocate for BBBS and continues to lead by example. Chris co-chaired the Real Men Mentor initiative in the Quad Cities helping recruit male mentors to become mentors.  In addition to being a consistent, positive presence for four mentees over a twenty-year period, he has worked to expand community support for BBBS of the Mississippi Valley, helping to position BBBS as a strategic partner with business, government and schools to develop the next generation of leaders
Margaret Burns has been a mentor with the M.A.Y. (Mentoring Affects Youth) Program in Shenandoah since 2011. In 2014, Margaret joined the M.A.Y. Advisory Board, serving as President for 2 terms. She advocates for mentoring as a business professional in her local community and encourages local businesses to support mentoring by recruiting mentors from their employee base. Margaret volunteers her time to supervise, chaperone and assist with events for the M.A.Y. program. Her dedication to organizing special events brings the community together and promotes a strong message of the importance of support for local youth.

Volunteer Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority Center for Rural Revitalization are making dozens of AmeriCorps positions available at no cost to local organizations active in COVID-19 recovery efforts or struggling with the effects of COVID-19. Members can serve organizations directly (i.e. mentoring, providing match support, engaging families) or indirectly (i.e. recruiting, fundraising, building capacity).  Initially, at least seventy 2-3 month full time positions are being created, but we will consider expanding the program if needs are present. Please complete this survey by May 6th to tell us how these resource could help, and we will follow up for more information. Your input will help us plan accordingly.

Volunteer Iowa is hosting a brief technical assistance call for any organization interested in hosting AmeriCorps. Join us on Tuesday, May 5 at 9:00am to learn how AmeriCorps can help and what steps need to be done to get started. To join the call, click here or dial in at 1-515-348-6300; conference ID: 774 636 666#.
