Week 2 - Don't forget your cloth bags!

Welcome to Week 2 of the 2016 CSA Program! 


***TAKE NOTICE: We are changing the pick-up location at the farm PERMANENTLY to the commercial kitchen across the road from the blue house. Directions: once you're on Hill's Bridge Rd, you'll travel about 3/4 of a mile. Once the pavement ends, take the first gate on the left (white painted boards). Look for the vehicles parked beside the grey barn. I will be inside the kitchen (brown painted side).

I (Stephanie) will be out of town Thursday-Sunday, so those of you picking up Thursday, Friday and Saturday will do so with Rick and Joanne. They'll be working extra hard this week, so give them some love when you see them!
 
Our 7th Annual Inman Antique Truck Show was a hit! Thank you to those of you who came out and to those of you who participated. We love our old trucks and glad you support us and our unique events. 

One of the biggest issues we've found in the past is how to store and freeze the produce you receive in your share. I will have a few documents printed for you at the pick-up location. They will be regarding freezing vegetables, freezing fruits, and storing produce. Ask me for one if you would like a hard copy.

Our Meat CSA has received some interest and I've written a blog in the Postcards from the Po' Farm page on our website. Check it out and see if this is a program you'd also be interested in. It would be a convenient way to retrieve all of your main food without having to constantly go to the store. Let me know if you're interested. We're looking to start next month.
 
DON'T FORGET YOUR BAGS - we will be refilling your cloth bags with your food items. Of course we will have a few with me this week in case you do forget them. And hopefully soon, we'll have our Minter's Farm bags.

Weeks 3 & 4 fall around the 4th of July. If any of you have vacation plans and won't be able to pick up your share, please email me and we can get your schedule switched around or let me know who will be coming to pick up your share.
 

This week's bounty:





FRUITS & VEGETABLES:

- Green Zucchini
- Tomatoes
- Yellow Squash
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Peach Preserves (4oz jars for half shares; 8oz jars for full shares)
- Mix-up portions size depending on the pick-up day: okra, potatoes, eggplant, beans, peppers, cucumbers
 

MEAT:

If you're interested in meat for Week 3, please let me know your order. I'll have items available from Happy Hogs LLC and Rocking Chair Ranch (beef) and chicken (whole, half birds, leg/thigh quarters, breasts (2 per pack), and wings). Please let me know in plenty of time so I can get the order put in and picked up. Some items may be a special cut, so keep this in mind!
 

RECIPES:

Grilled Veggies with Mustard Vinaigrette - a delicious side dish perfect for summertime grilling

Chicken Tomato & Cucumber Salad - this is a unique salad where you can replace the cucumbers with yellow squash and/or zucchini. So many options!

Blackbery & Blueberry Cobbler - a tasty treat using your fresh berries from this week's share

* Something fun to do with your peach preserves- make sweet peach bbq sauce by combining 2 parts peach jam and 1 part bbq sauce (as seen on The Hungry Texan



I will include recipes for items you'll find in your shares each week. Sometimes, the recipes will pertain to an item(s) from the week before. Please email me any recipes you love that involve items from the weekly shares. I'll post them on our Recipes page on our website.
