***Please note that there is an eligibility criteria to meet (Deaf, disabled, volunteers and hard to reach groups within communities across Lancashire - excluding Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool) and you are only able to attend one course per individual within an academic year***
Deaf & BSL Awareness ( 1 x 6hr workshop or 2 x 3hrs)
The course is delivered by a profoundly deaf tutor supported by a BSL interpreter. This training provides an insight into to real life situations faced by deaf people and looks at solutions to improve access and communication. The day is fun, informative and interactive and provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn together, develop new life skills and gain an insight into the use of British Sign Language (BSL). People will be issued with a certificate of attendance.
BSL Foundation Workshop (1 x 6hr workshop or 2 x 3hrs – Progression from Deaf & BSL Awareness)
The course is delivered by a profoundly deaf tutor supported by a BSL interpreter. This training will provide you with an introductory into the use of British Sign Language (BSL) enabling you to acquire signing skills. The course covers a range of different everyday topics which will promote communication with deaf people. The day is fun, informative and interactive and provides an excellent opportunity for you to learn in a group, develop new life skills and gain skills to be able to use British Sign Language (BSL). On completion a certificate of attendance will be issued.
Disability Awareness (1 x 6hr or 2 x 3hrs Workshop)
This is a course that is delivered by a tutor living with a disability (physical or mental), or a highly experience individual who has over 5 years of working with a wide variety of disabilities. This course will provide you with a wider understanding of issues surrounding disability and how this is perceived within our society, as well as how we can overcome barriers and communicate effectively with disabled individuals. This is a fun, informative and interactive session and on completion a certificate of attendance will be issued.
Mental Health Awareness (1 x 6hr or 2 x 3hrs Workshop)
This is an introductory mental health awareness course enabling participants to gain a wider understanding, for themselves and others, of some issues surrounding mental health. Also including a focus around evidence based techniques of how you can improve your own and others wellbeing, tools and resources to how we can work more effectively with people experiencing mental health conditions.
Practical Ideas for Happier Living ( 2 x 3hrs Workshops)
This is an introductory course consisting of two workshops to promote mental wellbeing in local communities, developed by Action for Happiness. Working around the evidenced based ’10 keys for wellbeing’ these sessions allow participants to up skill in ‘healthier’ habits, which also have a direct impact on our happiness.
