FAIRVIEW FAMILY
John Bunyan once said, “You can do more than pray after you have prayed but you can never do more than pray until you have prayed.” Spurgeon called the prayer meeting, "the powerhouse of the church." John Newton's quote is "I look upon prayer-meetings as the most profitable exercises (excepting the public preaching) in which Christians can engage." Well that's probably sufficient for prayer quotes. I bring these up to emphasize the importance of prayer together. Wednesday evening prayer has returned, and we'd love for you to join us in the sanctuary from 5:45-6:15 for this! It's a time for us to come together and commune with God and for the prayers of one to reflect the prayers of all. We pray in a way at these meetings that whether you pray silently or loudly that we all might be able to place an "Amen" on these prayers. And so please come and recognize the tremendous opportunity to have God's ear together as we offer thanksgiving and praise to God, as we pray for the spread of the Gospel, and as we lift up one another, our church, our community, missionaries, and others.

Impatient for Sunday worship with you.

MISSIONS
Mission to the World (MTW) is providing for the needs of Ukrainians through an effort called Crates for Ukraine. It's a way to provide basic care, meds, and wound supplies. Churches or individuals pack crates and then transport them to Krakow, Poland where they will be taken to Lviv, Ukraine and other locations. Click here to learn more and email me if you are interested in getting a team together to pack and deliver these crates.

Another way in which you might help displaced Ukrainians is by providing for refugees in a small village in Bulgaria. There a former orphanage is being converted into a refugee center, and many refugees are now calling this home. I will be traveling there on July 24 and expect to stay just shy of two weeks. If you would like to help provide for the physical needs of these families and individuals, email me. I'll also be letting you know more information soon on the specific needs of the people there.

ADULT SUMMER READING CLUB
Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
Published in 2004, Gilead is a bittersweet account of a dying Congregationalist minister, John Ames. The story, which is set in Gilead, Iowa, in 1956, unfolds in the form of a letter that he is writing to his young son to tell him all the things he will not be able to tell him when he gets older. With a slow and thoughtful pace, John shares past family memories and resolves an old personal grievance with the son of his best friend, Robert Boughton, who is a Presbyterian minister. As John explores the bonds and breakdowns in relationships between fathers and sons, he moves back and forth between his memories and the present. John's heartfelt, joyous love of life and his profound religious faith weave throughout the narrative.

Gilead "is so serenely beautiful, wrote one reviewer, "that one feels touched by grace just to read it."

Pick up a copy from Dan Nowell this Sunday and write August 17, 6:15 p.m. on your calendar for a book discussion party led by Dan.

TEACHER TRAINING
If you currently teach Sunday school for adults or high schoolers, or if you would like to teach, please come to this training on July 13 at 6:15 p.m. Future training sessions will also occur on July 27 and Wednesdays in August.

Book of the Month | A Little Book on the Christian Life by John Calvin
For the last year or so, I've used this space to suggest a book to you, and this month's book is one that you can read again and again. In fact the contents of this book are lifted from Book 3 of the Institutes of the Christian Religion. It's a great way to begin reading Calvin. Pick up a copy wherever good books are sold. What are you reading these days? Let me know!
