As of July 1, we do not have a Hospitality Committee/Chair.  This MUST be a committee of persons willing to share the responsibilities of the duties.  Rob did an excellent job on his own, but he admits that it was too much for one person.  In order to have coffee/social time with coffee and snacks, we need to have a committee.  Right now we are winging it week to week based on the Hosts who have signed up and yet it is not their responsibility to be sure we have supplies for the week.
Alert from UUA Internet Technology Services: Religious groups and congregations are becoming easy targets for online scams often delivered via email. It's important for congregational leaders to educate staff and members about how to identify these scams and what the official channels are for emergency notifications, donation requests, and similar situations used in phishing scams. Community Quilt Project

Next Meeting - Sunday, August 4th - after pot luck

We had a great turnout for the first Community Quilt Project meeting! We welcome anyone who was unable to attend to come to our next meeting after pot-luck in August. For the next meeting, please bring in some fabric pieces that you are fond of and would be suitable for use in a 12 inch square, keeping in mind that each block could reflect an aspect of our UU community and even the larger community. Click on the link below to learn about a collaborative quilt project described in UU World.

Please send me your news items for the UU View
by Tuesday evening!
We don't want to miss your important contributions.

STILL I RISE

BY MAYA ANGELOU

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
’Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
’Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin’ in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I’ll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history’s shame
I rise
Up from a past that’s rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise
