Rev. Sally Beth Shore
Our world is filled with suffering and cries out change, but ironically, if we want to improve things, focusing on what's wrong may cause more problems than solutions. In recent decades, the social sciences have produced a revolution in our understanding of positivity, optimism, and happiness, as well as ways to achieve them. This seems congruous with the central task of religion which is to offer and and sustain hope. As Unitarian Universalists, what would be possible if we incorporated the science of optimism into our theological approach? It’s easy to see what’s wrong, but what’s right?
