SUNDAY, May 5, 2019 at 11:00 am

Of Immigrants and Hummingbirds

Enrique Gomez
Surveys show that the percent of Americans who view immigration as a good thing has hit an 18 year high with substantial majorities across the political spectrum. Yet the dominant narrative in our political discourse toward immigration is overwhelmingly negative due in part to distorted moral narratives at the center of the story of who we are as a nation. The way towards a compassionate and effective response to human suffering at the border will come with a bold re-articulation of values shaping our place in history.

Fellowship Contribution Campaign

We Build on Foundations We Did Not Lay

We build on foundations we did not lay

We warm ourselves by fires we did not light

We sit in the shade of trees we did not plant

We drink from wells we did not dig

We profit from persons we did not know

This is as it should be.

Together we are more than any
one person could be.

Together we can build across the generations.

Together we can renew our hope and faith
in the life that is yet to unfold.

Together we can heed the call to
a ministry of care and justice.

We are ever bound in community.

May it always be so.

Rev. Peter Raible (1930-2004)
UU Minister, Seattle, WA

Welcome Back Wendy
The Rufous Hummingbird pictured at the top migrates 4,000 miles from Mexico to Alaska each spring and returns to Mexico in late summer. The monarch butterfly has also become a positive symbol of migration into the United States for immigrants from Mexico and South America.
