Note From the Director, READ Alliance

Welcome to the first issue of READ Express - a quarterly newsletter on Early Grade Reading delivered to your inbox. Here we will share updates on early reading, tools and resources for early reading practitioners along with achievements from the READ Alliance project.

READ Alliance aims to nurture and promote early grade reading in India by supporting promising grassroots innovations. While national reading statistics are shocking, we are yet to find reading solutions that address issues of literacy instruction and acquisition among primary learners. Our endeavor is to discover and support reading innovations that work with multiple stakeholders and offer scalable reading solutions to solve the reading challenge in India.

READ Alliance team attended a hands-on workshop titled ‘Evidence-based Strategies to Improve Student Learning’ by Centre for Education Innovation(CEI) where they unveiled their Early Learning Toolkit in India.

The Early Learning Toolkit contains practical resources to support the work organizations do with schools and communities to improve primary and pre-primary learning. It is based on rigorous evidence collected from Hewlett funded evaluations of innovative education interventions, as well as direct input from wide cross sections of programs that CEI is involved in.

Check out how they developed the toolkit and various strategies that can be adapted to your organizations at http://www. earlylearningtoolkit.org.
