Another opportunity to serve our community…

With that comes our first quarter newsletter to keep you updated on our success and our status of ongoing and future programs.
First, our family at MSS would like to thank you for your continuous support and encouragement. Since early beginnings, you were with us in every step, volunteers and donors; With your support MSS keeps growing and expanding their services. From a variety of great programs for both youth and adults, to providing much needed assistance in the community, MSS continues to be an invaluable resource for families in Kitchener-Waterloo
MSS have been very busy during the first quarter of 2018 from running programs across the community to provide support and integration assistance to our clients
Our Annual Fundraising and Awards Dinner will be on May 5th, 2018.

This year Honourable Iqra Khalid, MP. will be the recipient of the Truth and Justice award, all proceeds will go to support MSS Counselling Services.

Our counselling services are growing; during the first quarter we provided psycho-educational workshops in different locations attended by 90 members of our community and 100 individual counselling hours. We are accepting referrals from main stream organizations and building partnership with many agencies to better serve the community.
Our Healing Through Art program will start June followed by Music Therapy.
Community education and bridge building:
As part of our community education and bridge building, we partnered with the centre for the family medicine and provided a workshop attended by 26 health professionals to learn about Working with Syrians and Muslims in a Health Care Context.


I Belong
Our seniors program where we offered senior newcomers from trauma-ridden regions the opportunity to meet, discuss life experiences, and challenge and enjoy the support of other seniors, is still running every Friday evening at Chandler Moat Community Centre


Our new project Meet Thy Neighbours created a deeper understanding for different cultures and increased the sense of belonging. Ten workshops discussing different cultures were held in forest hill united church and Chandler Moat Community centre.
Lead the way project:
The second cohort of Lead the Way, the Youth leadership training program will start April 14th.
 The training will enhance their knowledge of issues pertaining to the mental health care system and health services, and relay this information to the newcomer communities in the area. We hope to bridge any existing gaps between newcomer populations and services available to them.
