Pachaysana: Arts fos Social Change in the Ecuadorian Amazon

Collaboration is the secret to our work!

The beginning of a new school year always brings tremendous hope for the future, as well as just a bit of apprehension. In our work, we have quickly learned that the secret to fulfilling hopes and easing tension is developing effective and meaningful collaborations. Today we announce an exciting new collaboration, while recognizing our long-standing ones. We also reach out to encourage others to collaborate in our efforts.

Pachaysana partners with the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University (IFSA-Butler)

We are celebrating the signing of a groundbreaking agreement with one of the foremost leaders in study abroad. Renowned for its academic excellence, attention to health & safety, not to mention a growing commitment to community-based learning, our collaboration with IFSA-Butler evolved over more than a year of getting to know each other.

IFSA-Butler spent a week with us during our pilot semester, living in our communities, conversing with our team members and learning about our new way of doing study abroad. They are fully dedicated to our community-based, fair trade education model. In addition to providing us with greater infrastructure, they will take charge of promotion and health & safety. More importantly, and the main reason we feel this agreement is groundbreaking, is that this collaboration provides greater opportunity to develop the Fair Trade Study Abroad movement. Thanks to everyone at IFSA-Butler!

Read our Blog, join the discussion

Pachaysana has launched a blog that explores the diverse themes related to our ongoing work in community development and global education.  It is especially appropriate as an educational tool in undergraduate college courses. We hope you will take a look and collaborate by offering your comments.

Excerpt from the first entry: “…we cannot deny that we have all been thrust into an evolving global story: we are all characters bound together in time and space, struggling to resolve profound conflicts in a tremendously complex plot.”

Apply for Teaching/Program Intern position

We are thrilled to announce an opening for our spring 2016 semester. We seek candidates to fulfill the role of Teaching/Program Intern. This person will collaborate by spending the entire semester with us in Ecuador, providing academic and logistical support to the Resident Director and faculty.  He/she will live part-time in Quito and part-time in our partnering communities in the Amazon region. We seek someone who can assist with sections and sessions of one or more of our classes; thus, we prefer that the candidate have a Masters in hand by December. The position is unpaid, but all expenses are covered. We believe this to be a great entry position for younger scholars/educators/activists.  Please read about our Rehearsing Change program and send a Cover Letter, CV and the names/contact information of 3 references to our Executive Director. Help us spread the word to potential candidates.

Our ongoing collaborators

Finally, we want to thank our ongoing partnering organizations. Their dedication to education and community development is unquestionable and we would not have excelled as far as we have without them. There are too many to thank in one newsletter, so here are those that are based in Quito. Fundación Quito Eterno is our principal collaborator, sharing personnel and resources in almost all our projects; the Universidad San Francisco de Quito is our academic partner for the Rehearsing Change program (they have shown tremendous leadership and commitment over the first year of our agreement); Nina Shunku is now completely invested in all our community projects, offering continuous creative facilitation; and Oralidad Modernidad provides us with academic support during the Rehearsing Change program
