This is the 26th celebration of World Press Freedom Day which raises awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and reminds governments of their duty to protect the free press. The 2019 theme Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation.
📚 Children’s Book Week
2019 is the 100th anniversary of Children's Book Week and this year the theme is "Read Now, Read Forever", which looks to the past, present, and most important, the future of children’s books. If you're having trouble finding a book to read your children, we suggest "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear" by Don and Audrey Wood. That book is perfect.
👨🏻💻 Social Media Week - NYC
New York's Premier Media and Marketing Event brings together professionals from over 50 countries where they can share new ideas, innovations, and emerging trends in social media. The 2019 global theme is "Stories - With Great Influence Comes Great Responsibility".
👤 Facebook Developer Conference Begins
Just a week after it was announced they're reserving $3B-$5B for a FTC settlement, Facebook looks to continue its journey to win back the public's trust. Things to look forward to at the conference: Zuckerberg's keynote, updates for the Oculus VR products, and maybe a dating service.
💫 Space-Related Events
Postponed a few days from it's original launch date, SpaceX plans to launch the CRS-17 Cargo Mission to International Space Station. Also this week is Space Day and the peak of the Aquariids Meteor Shower.

May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, which commemorates the month of the first immigration of Japanese to the US as well as the completion of the transcontinental railroad.
Japan's Emperor Akihito is resigning this week due to health concerns. This will end his three-decade reign and is the first abdication of the Chrysanthemum Throne since 1817.
Finally, the dark prince of comedy, Anthony Jeselnik, will be dropping his new Netflix Special this week 'Fire in the Maternity Ward'.
