Hurtigruten, the 120 year old pioneer explorer company, has tripled its capacity in Antarctic waters and now adds a new ship to its fleet, the MS Spitsbergen. With a modern Scandinavian interior drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes through which it travels, the ship has been sailing since its maiden voyage in June 2016. Look here.

Carbon neutral cruising

Peregrine Adventures hopes that its new range of ten carbon-offset adventure cruises will start a sea change of sustainability in the multi-billion dollar cruise market. “The only thing in common between us and the big cruises is the water itself,” Intrepid Group managing director James Thornton says. There are ten itineraries, on small ships ranging from 31 passengers to 50 passengers. Read the details.

Kumano Kodo self-guided walk in Japan

The Kii Peninsula points south away from Kyoto and Osaka and is one of the most remote and mystical areas of Japan, despite its proximity to these great cities. Long a place of pilgrimage, the Kii Peninsula is the site of the three Grand Shrines of Kumano (Kumano Sanzan). Our Kumano Kodo self-guided tours offer 4, 5 and 6 days walking village to village along the old pilgrimage route. The trail passes through dramatic scenery, tiny hamlets and leads to important historic shrines. Read more.

Sligachan Hotel on Slye

Welcome to Sligachan, one of the most beautiful and unique locations on the Isle of Skye and one of my favourite hotels in Scotland. Sligachan offers something for everyone, from relaxing accommodation at the Sligachan Hotel, to a variety of self-catering options including the Sligachan Bunkhouse, a much loved campsite, delicious

If you're looking for peace and tranquility, unrivalled scenery or perhaps an opportunity to ascend the formidable Cuillins, you've come to the right place. More.

And finally

A visitor to an Aberdeen bar was surprised to find the beer only two pence a pint. The barman explained that it was the price to mark the centenary of the pub opening. The visitor noticed, however, that the bar was empty. "Are the regular customers not enjoying the special prices?" he asked. To which the barman replied "They're waiting for the Happy Hour".
