The European Commission and EU consumer protection authorities launched a coordinated screening of 352 price comparison and travel booking websites across the EU in October 2016.

United Airlines overhauls its policies

In a news release late April, United promised  “10 substantial changes to how it flies, serves and respects its customers,” including bumping up the offers for volunteers to give up their seats from the $800 mark – what passengers were offered to give up their seats on Flight 3411 – to $10,000.

United CEO Oscar Munoz said the new policies show a “culture shift toward becoming a better, more customer-focused” airline.

Aussie women hit hardest by global roaming fees

Data finds 400,000 Aussies caught out by surprise bills. Despite our best efforts to avoid paying monstrous mobile bills whilst overseas, it appears a great many Australians are still being caught out by global roaming charges.

New research by comparison site finder.com.au, has revealed in the last two years, some 400,000 Aussies have returned from international travel to find a mobile bill way above their expectations, and it’s largely due to those nasty old roaming fees. Colinthescot

Overseas travel repatriation on the rise

Last year, Allianz Global Assistance nurses were responsible for 150 repatriations, ensuring the safe arrival home of many Australians.

However, despite an increase in travellers needing assistance more than ever, research shows an alarming number of Australians still treat travel insurance as a last minute purchase, with 39 per cent of customers purchasing travel insurance in the last week of departure and 19 per cent of customers purchasing the day before or on the day or departure

Biggest travel mistakes people are making

Business class fares to Europe

Garuda Indonesia has some very competitive business class airfares to London. About $5500 including tax and you can stop in Bali on the return. Sometimes an overnight stopover is compulsory and the airline pays for one night's accommodation. But if you stay longer in Bali you are not entitled to the free accommodation. Colinthescot

And finally

Ringer Reef Winery's 2017 Rose is out now. This wine is made from grapes grown on the Ringer Reef vineyard at Porepunkah. It is very fragrant with clean fresh fruit on the nose and good weight on the palate. It is dry and has a soft, mouth filling finish. This is one of my favourite vineyards and is still family run.
